Basically a very good game marred by a couple of really frustrating gameplay mechanics.

This is a european old style RPG with a good storyline and a lot of good loot, fun combat, and a decent story. It is basically marred by two very frustrating gameplay mechanics.
The first is the almost total lack of quest markers and quests that make it extremely difficult to know where to go or what to do to advance the plotline.
This is especially troublesome in the Flames of Vengeance expansion. I realize that the developers did not want to "dumb down" the game too much, but I really dont think it is too much to ask to be able to set an active quest and to have a quest marker appear to denote the active quest. I play RPGs to collect loot, build a strong character, develop the story, and "kill stuff". Is it really necessary to constantly alt-tab out of the game to search the internet over and over again to find the location of a quest item?? Requiring some pixel hunting is OK, but in my opinion, this game is way, way too difficult in regards to completing quests. And I dont mean combat, I mean knowing what you are supposed to do and where to go.
Secondly, and some will disagree with me, but what should be the most fun and powerful part of the game, playing as the dragon, is to me the most difficult and frustrating. To restate: I hated playing as the dragon! Especially in regards to Flames of Vengeance, I had my character built so well that I basically could kill every enemy without losing more than 20 percent of my health. However, now in order to finish the game, I have to play as a dragon, and I have played the level over and over again and cannot beat it. Partly it is my playing that is weak, but you cannot use many powers or upgrade the dragon easily, so that makes it difficult as well. And there are many comments on the forums that basically say the same thing.
So basically, I would recommend the game, but be prepared for some confusing and difficult questing. And I hope you have more fun playing as the dragon than I did.
Finally, be sure to get the updated game with both the original game and the Flames of Vengeance expansion. I guarantee you if you do not have the expansion to continue the story at the end of the first game, you will want to throw you mouse through the screen.
