edit on this review, I recently picked this up again recently and have realized that this is now my 4th playthrough lol. This is truly a unique experience a game that has been a different experience every time I've played it, and for that reason I decided to up my score from 8.5 to 9.
If your a fan of games like Fallout, Elder scrolls and Bioshock then your definitely gonna enjoy Dishonored as this game takes alot of inspiration from what made those games great. i.e. Graphical style, sound and the collectable upgrade system are very similar.
Dishonored strengths lie in not cutting edge graphics (although they're more than suitable) but in the variation you can carry out your missions. Get a target and then decide how you want to dispatch him, maybe possess his body and have him walk off the roof, poison him, burn him, really whatever you choose. Heck you've got a ton of decisions on how to get to your target you can choose to warp along the rooftops, possess a rat and run thru the walls or just run and gun killing everybody and everything between you and your target.
Dishonored isn't a terribly long game, specifically if you wanna just run and gun your way thru. But in fairness it's length doesn't come from the actual amount of time it takes to get to the end of the game but the previously mentioned alternative paths you can take to get there, which call for multiple playthroughs and thus increase the games length and replayability.
I have to take issue though with some people calling this game open world. Fallout 3 and Skyrim are open world, but in Dishonored things in the distance are blocked by invisible walls, you can see boats, buildings, etc. in the distance but you cannot explore them. The game is laid out in a mission format, the boatman takes you to the mission and you can do what you want in that particular area but make no mistake you are restricted to that particular area. So in closing great, varied game but it's not open world.
