    Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the elixir prevent you from getting the plague not curing it?

    He can't save everyone, nor is it his responsibility to do so.

    If I were in a place like that in a similar situation, I'd probably look after only myself as well unless it would be convenient to do otherwise.
