this game may not be for everyone but the ones it is for makes it a masterpiece

User Rating: 10 | Makai Senki Disgaea PS2
Disgaea is a game you don't hear about all too often. It's one of a kind. It contains all the aspects you'd expect from an SRPG, and extra ones that are quirky, but in a good way. If you like Anime humor, SRPG's , leveling up ( a lot) and eating away so much of your time that you have a 5 o'clock shadow even though you're a girl, disgaea is for you. Story Disgaea tells the story of a boy (well kinda, he appears to be a boy) named Laharl, who's father is /was the king of the netherworld. Laharl goes to sleep one day and wakes up 2 years later to find that his dad is dead, leaving behind a throne to be taken, and bringing on mobs of demons just waiting to succeed it. Now Laharl has to get out there and get his rightful position as the king. Gameplay 10 / 10 Again, this game is not for everyone, but the ones who it is for are going to love it. Although the game plays liek any other SRPG, there are quirks. The game is set up like it were an anime series, and it plays just as well, with the humor and just plain quirkiness you'd expect out of one. One is that you have the ability to get to level 9999 but you don't need to, in fact, the number you should be at by the end of the game can be about 100, but there are so many extras that 100 may leave you in a very bad position. And then as you use your skills, your level with them rises as well, making them more and more potent. The game plays fairly quickly, with you taking a turn unit by unit, then your enemy taking a turn and moving as a whole. It is a much improved FFT if you ask me. Graphics 10 / 10 Alright, you look at this game and say what were you thinking giving this game a 10? well if you play the game you'll see that these graphics fit the game perfectly, giving it the feel that it should have. The only problem can be in cutscenes where you see only portraits without moving mouths, arms, etc. but that really isn't a problem, only adding to the saturday morning anime show feel the game has. Sound 10 / 10 Basically the same track in battle for most of the game, but when you get to special battles then you'll see what i mean. Tsunami Bomb does a nice song for some of the optional battles, who doesn't like to whip butt to rock? Value 10 / 10 if you read all of my review, you'll notice that i have 100 or more hours. Well that's not accurate. I currently have 198 hours logged into Disgaea. And thats not just me playing it a lot just to get a good feel for the game. You could play only the main game and get 40- 50 hours out of it, which is nice, but then say you want to get all you can out of this game. you might be talking about 500 + hours and not even be halfway there. Disgaea is a very adaptable game with a great cult following. You could play it for a day or a year and still love it either way.
