Disgaea 2 is a awesome SRPG if it wasn't for the horrible music and voice acting this game would be perfect.
The story is okay. You play as Adell the hero of the story. His world of Veldime has been cursed by the Overlords of all Overlords, Overlord Zenon. His world which was originally all humans, are now all demons. Adell for some strange reason was not affected by this and is still a human. Although no one has never seen Overlord Zenon Adell attends to find him and free his world from the curse. The story begins with Adell's mother making a summoning spell to summon Overlord Zeon but for some reason it summons the daughter of Overlord Zenon, Rozalin. Now you must travel with Rozalin to return her to her father and then defeat the great and powerful Overlord Zenon. Overall the story is pretty dumb but its still good.
The characters are great. Disgaea 2 has a wide arrange of characters. Disgaea is known for there characters of being funny. Disgaea 2 does make all the characters funny. From the handsome Frenchman turned frog or the prism rangers, Disgaea brings it all to the table whether it be serious or funny Disgaea 2 has it all. It also has a wide arrange of returning characters such as Etna and Laharl. Overall the characters of Disgaea 2 is great.
Now onto the gameplay. The gameplay is amazing. If you played the first Disgaea the battle system has not changed much. Its still that same SRPG gameplay. Your character can move at a certain pace and you can attack defend use skills or magic and use items. The differences to the battle system is the better geo puzzles and a lot more skills. Just because the battle system wasn't changed much doesn't mean it's a bad thing there's nothing that they could do to make it any better. The improved geo puzzles are a very welcome addition the last Disgaea geo puzzles weren't much of a big worry in the battles but in this installment you will have to think carefully in each move. Also the new skills are a great addition. You have many new and old skills to choose from its almost endless.
Disgaea 2 adds a lot too the management part of the game. The equipment in this game is much different then other RPG's. The equipment will upgrade a plethora of stats and if the item isn't, don't worry you can just go to the Item World. The item world is one of the many unique and great things that Disgaea has. In the item world you can enter a world of one of your items. Here you battle for immense items and other little things and also to level up your characters. When you exit the Item World your item will level up and this will increase how good it is. This is one of the many things that add the immense amount of replay ability in Disgaea 2. Also the character creation system has been upgraded. In the last Disgaea there was a great selection of character classes to choose from but now Disgaea 2 adds almost double the amount of character classes then the last game. There is also a new addition to even widen the replay ability, it is the dark world. Once you fulfill a certain condition in the regular world you will unlock a alternate level of the world which is almost 10x harder. This itself adds a immense amount of replay ability. The Dark world will make you level up your character a lot. Overall the gameplay of Disgaea 2 is just amazing.
The graphics of Disgaea 2 is nothing special. Disgaea 2 graphics were always 2D and its not a problem. The developers that made Disgaea 2 has a style of making all there games with these type of graphics. Which isn't a problem it actually fits with the game. So overall the graphics are okay. The sound is the only bad part of this game. As with almost all anime inspired games the characters in the game will have real annoying voices. Disgaea 2 is no difference almost all the voices in the game are very annoying. Sometimes you will make yourself turn off the sound all together and read everything in text. The music itself is nothing special either. The sound is the only bad part of the game so overall the sound is just horrible. The value is simply amazing. The main story itself will take over 40 hours to complete then with the item world, dark world, all the character classes, and many hidden goodies add hundreds of hours of replay ability. Overall the value is just amazing.
Overall Disagea 2 Cursed Memories improves on everything from the last game if it just made the voice acting and the music better this game would have probably be perfect. So I give Disagea 2 Cursed Memories a 9.5 out of 10 if you don't already have this amazing SRPG pick it up right away you will not be disappointed.
