A game with so much potential wasted

User Rating: 6.5 | Digimon Battle Spirit 2 GBA
Digimon is easily one of the things which symbolises most of my childhood. I've seen all the films and watched the complete first four seasons on DVD. I've watched it in English, Japanese, German, Italian, Spanish even Greek. So obviously I was expecting to find a very good Digimon game, this isn't it.
I actually got Digimon: Battle spirit 2 as an accident. I had ordered Digimon: Battle spirit 1 of Amazon and received the second one instead, i didn't really see any reason to complain so i just kept it.
The game has great old style gameboy graphics, with cartoony figures and bright colours. The music is also pretty good.
The Game consists of you choosing one of the characters from, the quite badly rated, Digimon Frontier (Or season 4) with this character you fight in matches against all the other characters in various levels before taking on the main boss. This is no ordinary fighter though, rather than fighting with someone until one of you KO's, in Digimon battle spirit each hit releases coloured orbs. The idea is to collect as many of your enemy's orbs whilst preventing them from getting yours, before the time runs out. In principle this is an OK idea for a game but it just isn't my cup of tea.
Certainly considering the larger action orientation around Digimon Frontier i can't help but wonder why they didn't just make an ordinary fighter. It's hard for me to recommend Digimon: Battle spirit 2. Being a hardened Digi-nerd i didn't like it. Although if you're looking for something to entertain a, say 8-12 year old, Digimon fan then this may be the game for you.
