I find when I am able to play D3, it is good, but outside of the game, Blizzard should not have included Single player in the "must have constant connection" requirement so those who have problems playing can still play. As far as the bugs goes, some people do not have patience and even though it may have been in development for supposely eleven years and in beta, they can't catch them all. Rage, BF3 , MW3 all had problems on the day of launch and D3 is no different. In time hopefully Blizzard will fix what needs fixing.

Giancarlo Varanini unravels the storyline of the Diablo universe to set you straight for the upcoming Diablo III.
You guys forgot Diablo: Hellfire. Or do you pretend like Blizzard that it doesn't exist?
Great video. Thanks Gamespot. Having played neither of the first two games this helps alot.
hahahaha, more than likely!
Cool vid, thanks for getting me back up to speed. It's been quite a while since I last played Diablo 2. Now I don't have to go searching the wikis!
Really cant wait for this to be available tonight. too bad it wont be up until 4am EST. I will have to play before i go to work tomorrow
The cinematic collection is great and well put together...but seriously...the guy doing the reading for the narration sounds like he may as well just be talking about this month's Wall Street stock summary...
Passion bro PASSION!!
@priv3060 I've heard people talk with quite some passion about the stock market... Not nice man... You've got a point though...
I'll probably get flamed for this but I liked diablo 1 better than diablo 2. the atmosphere, enemies and overall feel has not been reproduced since. Diablo 1 was just spectacular. On another note, I'll bet any takers that diablo 3 gets a 9.5. does anyone remember a game from Blizzard that did not get a 9.5 from Gamespot? I don't!
The Lost Vikings is technically a Blizzard game and it got a 7.1, Diablo II got an 8.5, while Starcraft got a 9.1.
You don't want to support a well known company that makes great high quality games? o_O
@jojocomeand Why not? Are you insane? If u don't support them, what company would u support?
@jojocomeand But you would support the company that made this story. If you like the story, support it's creators :D
100% Awesome cinematics in diablo 3. And even more so starcraft 2.
BUT THATS IT
Been a hardcore pc gamer my whole life, blizzard games from the original warcraft 1 rts and diablo were like a religion to me. Now they basically re-release games a decade later with dated or childish graphics/art style and beautiful cinematics and marketing to make people buy it. Can't believe how UNEXCITED I am for heart of the swarm - and I play zerg!!!!!
Yes the games are still polished, yes i did beta testing, but everything else is far far away from the genre defining artworks that blizzard became 10 years ago. And that should be more than enough time to develop one. These games have become just another hack n slash or starcraft 1 hd. If not for the robust mod community (i.e. 90% fan made sc2 games), wheres the incentive beyond our blind hype and pretty cinematics?
But perhaps there will always be the people who pay full price on release for mists of pandaria instead of saving for a game like guild wars 2.
Activisiion destroyed the heart of my favorite company and turned it into a cash cow. Its depressingly sad. People need to see beyond the fluff, open their eyes and close their wallets. Demand more from gaming. Many more companies will use this as a model otherwise (already are), and only we get screwed.
@Grooves22 1) Activision does not control blizzard at all. The last game they put out was in 2010. Just saying,
2) Heart of the swarm could not be more different from other starcraft games because it has hero units and a completely different metagame from wings of liberty.
3) Everything else you've said is completely subjective. I personally think the artwork in D3 is miles ahead of the constant brown from d1 and 2.
And you can really put it down to "blind hype" because Blizzard is a company with super high standards and only puts out a game when they feel it's ready. Both starcraft and diablo sequels took over a decade to come out. I don't see how they're turning into a "cash cow".
I guess maybe warcraft but even then they only put out and expansion every 2 years. That's a pretty standard cycle.
@Tremblay343 hey thanks for your reply.
Didn't Blizzard merge with Activision a long time ago and theyre still together? I've heard the chief talk about marketing strategies for their games, and thats exactly what I'm getting at in my post. And theres heroes in hots multiplayer?! i havent read that but will check it out.
No insult intended but i think maybe you misunderstood my post a bit. Of course everything will be subjective from everyone, but comparing what the previous generation of bilzzard games did with graphics and gameplay etc, the new ones are literally just coming out with a fresh coat of paint and riding on their coattails. One of the developers even said recently said blizzard has never been about graphics, we want to refine gameplay. I completely AGREE gameplay always takes precedence but whats the excuse on graphics/gameplay seriously? It is very very possible to make gorgeous, optimized, fast running games. It's been done many times. Heck, another blizzard also said sc2 was an updated wc3 engine... like what? after how many years? But again it seems quite clear when looking at options that this downgrade for pc graphics is done so that they can easily console port it. (aka $$$)
Moreso, the games are of course still fun cuz its the same gameplay, and I clearly mentioned that I think all their games are still polished. But what I'm pointing out is when you compare to the advancements and possibilities in gameplay/graphics created in the past 10 (!!) years by competing titles, this updated rehashing is insulting and clearly based mainly on unwavering suppot from fanboys (my 'blind' point) and e-sports. 10+ years is such a long time that only other companies could dream of to observe, expand, and do something truly special. It's very clear the vast majority of that time was spent only on WoW. Which improved how much? People will welcome *building* upon something great, the e-sports excuse is quite lame coming from them.
The problem is many great titles in the past 10 years have become overshadowed as a result by blizzard and then try to change what they had success in because they feel they have to be completely different now to compete. i.e. dawn of war, supreme commander or dungeon siege series. Changing and expanding on a core are 2 completely different things. This is usually a bad gamble on their behalf and future titles in the series lose their fanbase as a result. But doing neither is a problem too, but its 'safe' (aka $ in the bank), and thats what I'm getting at.
Anyways, for newcomers these new blizzard games now are all gems cuz they haven't experienced it before, rightfully so as they are still good games. But when you know of the past and you could literally see a majority of completely recycled elements with some even taking a step backwards in several areas - after supposed 10 years of development (!!!), you have to ask questions. Thats what people need to 'open their eyes' to. Fast.
Warning to all that predowloaded the German or English version, plz visit the diablo3 website, you need to re-install the game. It has a error in it. www.diablo3.com
Hope i did get this warning to you in time so you can start playing in time.
Game on :D
DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS PERSON
it could be a scam to get your account information!!
ONLY use battle.net or the official blizzard websites
Great. However I wish the video was longer so people could see more about what exactly happened and what players had to go through, it could help new player have a better feeling of D3
Love the recap, the cinematics have not aged as well as I remember but at the time they were some of the best around. Have the same problem with HD remakes, my memories do not match those of what they actually were even with the HD revamp.
I used to freak out over the goriness of the cinematics as a child. Watching it now, I think it's quite exquisite. Especially 8:37. That splat is scrumptious! Hopefully, Diablo III's cinematics won't disappoint.
I remeber watching one of my friends waste a large part of his life in DII, and thinking man I really need to give this a chance. Well here goes nothing, after COD andBF killing my love for gaming, I need something to relight the spark. So no pressure Blizzard.
Walmart's description of D3 is worth reading
@Frostyballoon Nearly flunked my only class in college when 1st one was released. Received my only C because of the original Diablo, that and a really wicked sore index finger from all that clicking!
@Rask123 Love the AC games. They are well worth playing through even if you just focus on the main story with no side quests / etc.
Great review Giancarlo Varanini and great video narration! I've played both Diablo games and never realazed Tyreal was trying to cleanse/stop the corruption of the world stone. Thought he had used the Diablo / Mephisto / Baal to gain entrance to the World Stone and then shattered it, effectively rebelling against Heaven.
Prepurchase downloading as i type :D :D :D excited is an understatment social life is n ow nothing i am happy :D
A lot of them were e3/tvspots, etc. Some where never in the retail game.
@Lionoversusking I don't remember most of the stuff either. Of course, it was many years ago.
So why did Marius pull out the stone? Did he think Diablo was his friend? Did he think Tyrael was the enemy?
Who in their right mind would trust a dark hooded disfigured guy who hides his face over a holy angelic being with angel wings?
to add, he had no idea it was diablo (the player didn't know either, from what I remember)
