Watch this feature for the 15th anniversary of Diablo from the BlizzCon 2011 opening ceremony.
@Aceback m8, you took the words right out of my mouth. That last post was a very satisfying and conclusive read. I remember when I went "WoW!" after seeing the cinematic quality.. but more importantly the care of presentation, in the old games. But it seems I may have said too much, that one time... ages 13-16 lol.
@unDeny: Agreed, but this is happening for a very simple reason: profitability. They don't want to take risks in continuing to deliver new and interesting universes, much less continuing the ones that stood out for their incredible plots, enviroments, etc., because this would not bring any guarantees of successful sales and marketing to the broader public (this has been happening since a long time in most major companies not just blizz) that's mostly comprised of younger gamers who are easier to attract and to make buy hype. They don't want intense single player campaigns nor in-game depth, but mostly multiplayer, competitive action with good graphics and lots of action. I'm not critizing them in any way, just pointing out which audience Blizzard and many other companies are aiming at, which is the one that keeps them alive, of course. Big companies require huge earnings to stay alive and grow, and nobody wants to take risks and try out new ideas, I can understand that. But I don't wanna see the boys at Irvine coming here and telling me their newer sequels are better, because I ain't buying that one.
@Aceback: Been trying to get this phenomena into my head 4 a while now! EVERYTHING you posted, I agree with man.. The appeal of the separate 'universes' was the simple fact that they ARE distinct. And in games/lore/fantasy, nothing shines out stronger than the visual feel & presentation. Every inch of one these new titles, feels like it could've been 'painted' simultaneously... on the same canvas! Now, there's no reason for an indie artist to SOMEHOW manage to render a sort of tribute to Blizzard's characters in 1 montage/picture.. Just cut, paste and tweak to some degree of originality. (I'd bet :P!)
Diablo 3 looks like a ripoff from WoW, nobody is complaining about palettes but about cartoonish, all audience, failed "epic" kind of action that doesn't fit the true Diablo series. Ever since Blizzard North started dying, the series went into a downfall. IMHO, both D3 and SC2 looked very unimpressive in first sight and the only one of both that's been released so far may have been a great hit on the shelves but for me it's barely worth an average score. It was more of the same, and unfortunately D3 looks this way regarding WoW. WoW was a blast, no doubt about that. But Blizz forgot about making its games original as it did in the past, not everyone wants warcraftish sequels to splendid classics specially "terror" themed WoW RPGs.
i am extremely excited for this release. i think it's impossible for it to be a disappointment. everyone complaining about color palettes or any other petty issue needs to get off their high horse and start being a real diablo fan.
So sick, I've been waiting so long, hope it lives up to my expectations!
@jstarscomm What are you talking about? You didnt play the game and is talking such a bulls#!t. Dont judge what you dont know!
I cannot wait. Blizzard, take your time in making this one great.
f*ck, I want that image of Mephisto, its so cool!
Meh we will see what Diablo 3 will turn into: A failure or a savior from the WoW debacle.
I wont judge until I play the game, but diablo 3 looks very different from the first two games. Its obvious to anyone that actually played the first 2 games when they came out as much as I did. How its different and whether good or bad I will leave to others to argue about.
Diablo was epic but blizz has killed the franchise, the story sucks now, no more epic script like Diablo1. They messed it all up, just like what they did to warcraft and starcraft, this is what happens when money is involved. things turn to crap. its just getting worse one after another.
@Seifer24 While I agree it's not in Diablo 1 and 2's league (gothic hardcore RPG's with there own style vs WoW'd cash cow with much less skill choice and levelling to be done) it's still not childish. It's just too influenced by WoW, clearly the way it's always online, an item store, no light radius and copying WoW style character models is just stuff you'd only want if you was a WoW player and not a Diablo player. They've made dumb choice after dumb choice and I still think it'll be a pretty good game but I just don't think it'll even be in the other Diablo's leagues. It's toned down on levelling, skill choice etc. Being limited to level 60 just sucks, it's obviously just there so they can chuck in two expansions later on.
sigh i remember when diablo was not entirely a mmo :(
Pls dont call D3 just name it Sub-wow cuz that is what your doing ... or anyhow not the classic diablo
was honestly expecting a release date outa this years blizzcon.. wtf
Who else was pumped as soon as they heard the tristam theme on stage? cmon show your love.
Why do I have to sit here and watch with deep longing. T.T
nothing on warcraft 4? Just... *sigh* mists of pandera?
Diablo 1 and 2 were awesome mature and scary but i doubt about diablo 3.It looks childish and cartoonish with the stylized art.Diablo now looks more like a cartoon creature than Diablo in 1.
Well, that was quite a waste of my time.
come on! stop the hype and give a freaking date already!.... you all should be ashame of all this years of nothing...
Soab...I feel old... I remember getting the original shortly after release....
Really thought this was leading towards a release date :( Womp Womp
lol Diablo 15th anniversary, and what do they have to show for it?? only 2 games...
So...ummm, can they announce the release date soon please?
