Hey all. I'm an avid Diablo player. Own an original copy of the playstation version unopened and played Diablo II for well a great while. I was thinking it was time to join the world of Diablo 3 but wanted to ask you all is it worth buying? How many people play and does it compare in any way to Diablo II?
I promise I'm not a troll. I've been playing Diablo since day 1 as well as Diablo II. Thank in advance.

Some would say yes, others would say no. You'll get no straight answer here.

Thanks for the quick replies. Just hope my wifes Sony Laptop can handle this game. >.> I don't ever play Diablo with the best graphics. I'm more gameplay/fun factor then I am a graphics hog.

On low setting I think a Iphone can run it. I'm not serious, but I think you could.

The requirements are pretty low, so you should be okay. If you like D2, you will probably like this. It was less than stellar at launch, but has been patched up fairly well. Chances are an expansion will be out in a few months too.

I'm sorry, but you must be EXTREMELY new to Blizzard games. Once they announce the expansion, expect to wait a year and a half at the least.

People still play D2 after all this time. D3 will live just as long, I'm enjoying it =)

Don't take our words for it though. You can always try out the Starter's Edition for free.

You can download the client and sign-up for the free demo at their website. I would suggest doing that first, and also, take that as a grain of salt. The fun really begins once you hit 60 and do Inferno mode, and the demo only allows you to level up to 15 I think.

I'm sure that you'll be able to get your $60's worth. I think that even a lot of the people that troll the game on here did, by any sane person's metric. It's just a question of whether the game will last you as long as Diablo 1 & 2 did, or indeed most games that focus on online play.

Call it wishful thinking on my part. They normally take a longer time, but then they don't normally have all the issues and complaints that D3 has/had. Combine that with the gaming market has changed. A game had more direct competition and indirect competition to deal with. Such things could generate some urgency. They may not, but it's possible.

No. It's not. Not even for the single player experience. Gameplay is lame, storyline is bland. At best maybe 20 bucks. If I wasn't stupid enough to get the Collector's Edition I'd have refunded this game two weeks in.

You're obviously one that should go play PoE. This game is just too cool for you.

While I was a bit disappointed with the game overall, I still easily got my moneys worth out of it. If you enjoy the genre and plan to put even a small amount of time into end game farming etc I would say it is well worth the money.

There is absolutely no chance that the expansion will be released in 2013. Best case scenario is mid-2014, following a Blizzcon 2013 announcement.
You have to think something along the lines of HOTS here. It took Blizzard nearly 3 years to get HOTS ready.
Blizzard has historically been a company that releases things when it's ready. They broke that rule to get Diablo 3 out in 2012 when it wasn't ready, they won't break it again for the expansion because they recognize that it's really important to get the expansion right.
