Devil May Cry (PS2) is an awesome game with a cool character: Dante and a wonderful start to a new series.

I was in Japan when I played the demo of a game I never heard of. I thought well, it is made by Capcom so it can't be all that bad. Hours later I was looking for the release date of this game.

Once the game hit store shelves I snapped it up in seconds and took it home to play it in english (the demo was in japanese) and immediately I took a liking to the hero of the game Dante and his in charge but laid back attitude especially in the intro scene between him and the biker chick named Trish (whoa, slow down babe)

Ambience. It's all about the gothic ambience especially when you arrive at the castle. The interior is just breathtaking and I couldn't believe these graphics were possible on the PS2. Another detail I'd like to point out is when you go up the stairs you can see Dante just running up the winding stairs (can we say great camera work on this one?) and when you reach the top you enter this room with a window and outside that window you can see the trees blowing in the wind. I just thought that was just an amazing attention to detail and really added to the atmosphere in a positive way.

With the ambience comes a great soundtrack and it too provides a great partner in conveying the story. Also, you are graded on style from A, B, C, or S (with S being the highest)

Thank goodness for glitches too because it allows for you to hit an enemy with your sword and while the enemy is airborne you can use your guns (Ebony and Ivory) and shoot them. It is an extremely cool effect.

The bosses are great especially the giant spider named Phantom. I played against him in the demo and the pulse-pounding track let me know that this was going to be a kick butt battle. It was pretty cool as well as the other boss fights. The enemies are nice targets for your demonic transformations by using the "devil trigger"

The puzzles are not to difficult in this game and it really plays like a Resident Evil game.

FINAL VERDICT: The game is the very essence of COOL. It is also very stylish and the hero gives you sense of empowerment and you never feel like the enemy is better than you in any given situation as you have a demonic powers, a great sword, and two guns with unlimited ammo in each. It's a great start to a series and I hope you give this one a shot as you won't be let down by the intense action within.
