GC '07: Devil May Cry 4 Xbox 360 Hands-On

We tried Capcom's stylish crazy action game on the Microsoft console, which plays and looks exactly like its PlayStation 3 counterpart.

LEIPZIG, Germany--It may not come as pleasant news to those PlayStation fans who once coveted their precious exclusive Devil May Cry, but Capcom's hyperkinetic action series is just as furious and fluid on the Xbox 360 as it is on the PlayStation 3. We know this because we played through an entire two-part demo on the Xbox 360 here at the Leipzig Games Convention. We were pleased to see that those who want to slash up a bunch of creepy marionettes and earn achievement points for doing so will get the same core experience as their Sony-based counterparts.

As far as content goes, the demo here in Leipzig is the same as the one we've been seeing periodically on the PlayStation 3 since May or so. One section gives you a 10-minute run through a cathedral, as well as a series of courtyards, in which you can use main character Nero's sword, gun, and demon arm to rip up hordes of the game's characteristically disturbing, shambling enemies. The other section of the demo sends you through a snowy mountain environment to Fortuna Castle, after which you'll take on the massive fire demon Berial in an epic battle in a small village. If you've been keeping up with Devil May Cry 4 in the slightest, you should be well acquainted with this material already.

For those wondering how this game compares to the PS3 original, the story here is that there is no story: They're identical to our eyes. Capcom had kiosks set up with Xbox 360 and PS3 demos running literally side by side; we couldn't note a difference in frame rate or image fidelity between them. Naturally, this owes entirely to the development efforts Capcom has invested in its new multiplatform next-generation engine, which works on the 360, PS3, and PC. We haven't seen the PC version of DMC4 yet, but a Capcom Europe rep told us that there's no appreciable difference in that version either (provided your hardware is beefy enough, of course).

We've got video of the entire DMC4 presentation on the 360, and we'll get that posted for you to check out with your own eyes as soon as possible. Then again, you'd be served just as well by checking out our previous PS3 footage of the demo. They're really just that similar.

by gooshnads: "and it kinda sucks DMC 4 is comming for x360...but i dont think some ppl will understand the story at all...so yay for PS! haha" why do i see the trend of people assuming that if you own a 360, that you've never owned a Playstation (or other company's) console in your life? Contrary to popular belief, i'm sure most gamers aren't avidly company biased and have and still do play and enjoy games for every system.

I still haven't played DMC 3 though....T_T But yes I am glad that this game is coming to the 360 and I'm glad that Capcom is backing the 360 this gen. Capcom is ONE OF THE BEST DEVELOPERS EVER!!.....everything they make turns out great.

I want DMC 4 Demo in my PSN store.

LegionofClouds 5 pts

Yay i can get this for my 360 now ^^ Huh, why pple fiite over whether PS3 is better than 360 or not? Im gettin PS3 for xmas W00T i liek both I personally think that 360 games riite now give it an edge over PS3 riite now For all the gr8 PS3 games that are supposed to put the 360to shame, they're not out yet and no one has personally played them( with some exceptions of course ) so you cant really tell if they are better than 360 games And yay, DMC4 Beat DMC 3 with virgil 3 times already cuz i cant wait for this game

trayvincent 5 pts

I wonder what the Achievements are. And it's a good thing that this game is coming out on january 18th and the 29th is my birthday!!

john1912 5 pts

Dead rising would be a nice addition to the PS3. Not a must have/mind blowing game, but it really grows on you, has alot of replay in trying to rescue ppl you didnt find, or just got plain killed the first 2 or 3+ times around. Def one of the better first gen Xbox titles I played. As an Xbox fan guess im glad PS3 didnt get it :P.

carpathianrogue 5 pts

That would definitely be good fun to play from Marketplace. I hope they do release it.

billyjunxix 5 pts

capcom is a lot more favorable to the XBOX 360, just think about the dead rising and lost planet which is exclusive only on the XBOX 360. and ps3 fanboy please just admit it to yourself that the XBOX 360 is the best console.

xion4360 5 pts

i want to see the footage..please post!

I guess Capcom are with 360 this Gen, why is dead rising and lost planet not on PS3?

CarlosValmer 5 pts

Hell yeah! Never played the games but i'm glad to see the PLAYSTATION 3 has lost ANOTHER exclusive. XBOX 360 OWNS ALL!!! Oh yeah, hey blueflamedino, i agree with you totally. The XSTATION would KILL!!!

Good to know 360 owners are going to be just as amazed with this game(probably a bit more during and after Fall too:) ).

shadystxxx 5 pts

Im a big fan of dmc i even enjoyed dmc 2 a little bit. But dmc will always have a special place in my gaming heart, as you know when the new gen starts and you play that first game thats leaps and bounds better than anything you played before and you get that "WOW" moment where you just stand and look at the beautiful graphics. DMC 1 give me that wow moment for ps2, and then gears of war give me that first wow moment of this generation. I hope i get another wow moment with bioshock tommorow, then heavenly sword and halo 3in september, its going to be a WOW of a fall 07.

SirWeymont 5 pts

i am an avid PC gamer. def. open to buying a next gen gaming system because of these types of games. this, Silent Hill, MGS4, and Resident Evil will make me go ahead and get prolly the Xbox 360. It seems to be the system to get because of the titles and price. holla.

blueflamedino 5 pts

The ultimate solution to this wars? X-station, Sony's hardware and Microsoft's software to build a super machine that rivals the pc in graphics for at least a year (PC graphics upgrade really fast). The ultimate next gen along with whatever Nintendo is thinking. One platform for the core market and all developers need to worry about is one piece of hardware, like how the film industry really only used one medium in the past like VHS or DVD

i need to insure my pc ps3 and 360 this winter coz they goona be on 24/7

JJpenguin 5 pts

I think games on both consoles are a way forward because the PS3 and 360 are pretty much identical (i don't really care about any technical stuff) in terms of PLAYING the games the Wii and PC are different enough to the PS3 and 360 to warrant different games exclusive to them. for example many RTS's would be better on PC because of the hotkeys and mouse control, while games that use a lot of motion sensitive stuff should go on the Wii, it makes sense, now while the 360 has stuff like Halo, and the PS3 has it's own good exclusives, multiplatform games between the two should be encouraged, if only to stop fanboys...i own a 360 btw, so haven't played a PS3

1valiantknight 5 pts

This is just one more reason my PS3 as of yet is going to stay a large shiny black $600 paper weight.

iboo01 5 pts

Yh im hyped for this game as well

Svenco72 5 pts

Yep, its a gift of God! lol, at least Capcom did something right about the grapical issues between the PS3 and 360. (360 for me, lol)

Klaven 5 pts

I'm glad they're putting games on both systems. I have a 360, and I don't plan on getting a ps3 unless it gets super cheap, so maybe in a few years so I can play final fantasy 13 and mgs4. That is, if they don't come to the 360 as well. But this keeps everyone happy because everyone gets to play the games, no matter what console they decided on, and the game creators end up winning in the end too.

Jagzthebest 5 pts

man as a ps3 fan it was dissapointing and give me a thumb downs and evrything if you will, and hate me or whatever, but I was just point out something. Everyone saying how they are stopping fan arguments & everything, and how they are doing it for more money, But: WHERE'S DEADRISING AND LOST PLANET FOR PS3???!!!!! GOD DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE PORT THEM

spawnassasin 5 pts

awsome cant wait hope we get a demo to then that would be even better
