Devil May Cry 3 is the beautiful nightmare you just don't want to wake up from.

User Rating: 9.5 | Devil May Cry 3 PS2
Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening is a Fantasy Action game for the PS2. It is a prequel to the rest of the series, and might be the best in it thus far.

The story sets on Dante, a half demon show off type, who has just opened his new Demon hunting agency, but still hasn't named it. One day a mysterious man named Arkham comes in a gives Dante an "invitation" from his brother, Vergil, who Dante has bitter relations with.

As soon as Dante steps out of his shop, it collapses on itself thanks to the work of monsters popping up everywhere. And soon after, a massive tower/skyscraper comes straight out of the ground, almost out of nowhere. When Dante see's his brother on top, he senses some sort of evil plan forming, and persues deep into the tower to stop what ever uprising may be in store for him.

Of course that is just the beginning, before you know it, the plot thickens to incredible lengthes, enemys sprawl feom almost every where, and keep getting closer and closer to learning Vergil's plans.

Straight off the bat, the game is beautiful, but like it said earlier, it can also be a beautiful nightmare.

What might be the game's most promising feature is its visuals. There are top notch, espicially the cutscenes, as all Devil May Cry games are.

And then you have the least promising feature, the difficulty. The game can be VERY hard at first, but thankfully just at first. It took me days to get past the first boss (Cerberus), and that's coming from an experienced player.

Don't worry, the difficulty doesn't last long, as the game sort of click's into motion soon after.

Describing the combat, that too is wonderful. The main weapons of Dante are a sword named Rebelion, and to Hand guns named Ebony & Ivory. Of course this isn't limited to those as you press farther in the game. If one utilizes them correctly, devastating combos can be pulled off, which are just as much fun to pull off as they are to play.

Sure the controls are just repeadatley pressing different buttons, but never once does it feel anything like a button-mashing beat em' up game.

The game as a whole is pretty long. It is divided into missions 20 in all. This will take you a while to complete, especially if you factor in the difficulty I was talking about.

There are really only four main characters in the game. Dante, Vergil, Arkham, and Lady, the only female character really. I could describe her, but that would only give spoilers, let just say the characters are all perfectly configured with the right emotions to describe them, and there voice acting is wonderful to add.

Above All, this is a prime game in the Devil May Cry series. I highly recommend this over the Special Edition they have released, and as well as anyone who owns a PS2, should go and get this.

Scoring Time!

Graphics: 10/10: Beautiful cutscenes and frame rate that never slows down the fun.

Dynamics: 10/10: Fun combos, and loaded with cool weapons to pull them off.

Characters: 9/10: Superb, but voice acting seems cheesy once or twice.

Gameplay: 10/10: Long and Exciting. Ain't nothing else to add really.

Difficulty: 710: Blazing hard at first, then gets back up on its feet again after that.

Final Score: 46/50 = 9.5/10 = Satisfying!

Buy it today, I hear its only 8 dollars, that's a steal alright!
