Deus Ex: Human Revolution augments the future in this video review with Kevin VanOrd.
Will get this tomorrow:D
Poor facial expressions, same body movement behavior & voice overs for NPCs doesn't diminish the staying power of this game.So cool and atmospheric, so many different options to approach a task/side mission; etc.Besides, I have never enjoyed hacking on a game as much as in this game.I think I will have to write a review...
If I'm playing this for the first time should I get the dlc mission and play it now or wait until I complete the game to play it?
williebazerka Wait to complete the game. That dlc mission explains what happened in a particularly misterious timeframe in the main game's story.
One of the best stories I've ever seen in a video game, so engrossing
people complain about the boss fight, but I managed to defeat namir in 5 seconds using grenade launcher, defeat barret using typhoon, & defeat Yelena using REPS & revolver. It's manageable ^0^.
such an amazing game
There are probably a few people who is going to come down on this game for blocky graphics or bad incoherent gameplay, bad ai, not like the original Deus Ex exactly.. etc etc.. But honestly if you are not one of those pedantic, purist, extremely demanding gamers, then chances are you will love this game. Probably the coolest singleplayer game I played in 2011. I can recommend it! The art, combat, stealth, the look and feel, the lore, the story the music, it all wraps it up for me. Great game! Definitely worth playing..
This game looks like a cross between Fallout3 and Mass Effect.
The game has a great atmosphere that pulls the whole game up, but rather than that the story is pretty boring I'd be more interested in relationship between Adam and Megan rather than saving the world and all that crap, and I was very disappointed that it has no New Game+, it also has pretty hollow open world where NPCs are like decoration, in fact the game has tons of flaws but good gameplay and awesome atmosphere saves the whole thing. I gave it 8.0!!!
I have to admit though. I *did* think there were some flaws in the game. NONE of them were mentioned in the review however. Here are a few *tiny* things that the developers could do to REALLY make the game just SO much better. 1. I was really surprised the way you didn't get any experience points for entering a code or user login password. It just makes NO sense. You collect all the text, you read it, you get the code, you go the terminal or whatever, the code is floating beside it on the screen, and do you enter it? NO, no you do not, because why would you when you could just hack it instead and get some free XP? BIG flaw that could have been avoided I thought. 2. Tied in with the first, but stands as an issue in its own right. Simply put, there was TOO much hacking in the game. It really broke up the flow of the game big time, especially when you enter yet ANOTHER office/computer lab and think; "I have to hack ALL of these, my mind won't let me not... here we go again..." 3. Like the second point. TOO many drawers/cupboards to open, destroys an otherwise brilliant pace in the game. 4. An additional space to the side of your inventory screen that gives you room to breathe while reorganising, instead of having to drop your items on the floor and pick them up again. This does NOT add depth to item management. RE4 is a perfect example of this done right. 5. I really think a New Game+ mode would have been a great addition to this game. The option is something I think almost EVERY game should have.
naryanrobinson you get XP for reading the e-mail with the code in it, and whatever is behind the door your trying to get into, there will be goodies for you, how much more could you ask for? to many drawers and cuboard to open? are you kidding? dont open them then and continue, no one is forcing you to do that, the game is that flexible. and weres the challenge in returning back with all your stuff? its not fun and would get boring FAST. if you want a challenge try beating the game on the hardest diff without killing anyone. did it, its awesome
luketheduke324
Yes I know how to get a challenge in a game that has a difficulty setting. I played through without killing anyone, just the same as you.
I'm a completionist, a perfectionist, just like a lot of gamers out there. I can't simply walk past game content. If there's a drawer in the level, I have to see what's inside it, just like millions of other gamers out there.
You may read about this if you spend a lot of time reading forums for a game like Fallout 3, where people are annoyed that there are so many drawers and cupboards to check in the game and that you have to go all the way over to a corpse to see what they are holding, and it's difficult to ignore. It's a common annoyance.
As for the experience points, they've clearly got it the wrong way round then.
The real rush comes from entering in the code you've found into the panel and getting inside, not from reading pages of text in a stealth/action game, and it doesn't change the fact that you're better off spending your time on the mini-game rather than getting that satisfying feeling of successfully pretending to be someone else.
As for New Game+, it would take almost no extra effort to put it in.
If you're complaining that it would be too boring, don't do it.
"Are you kidding?... no one is forcing you to do that, the game is flexible."
I really think this game is absolutely sublime. I never played the game that got reviewed here, I started with version 1.3.x.x.x and the game that *I'm* playing is absolutely awesome. 1. Yes the facial animations are stiff sometimes, but that really is such a tiny flaw in the game, and the facial animations are great where it counts, in the social "boss battles". 2. The graphics aren't "crap" like so many stupid people are saying. They're stylised to pop more and react differently to the unique lighting system in the game. I think the effect is brilliant. 3. I don't know about before (as I said I'm playing the patched version) but the AI now is *fine*. There was literally only a couple of times in the whole game I could easily exploit it to achieve an objective. 4. "Clipping into walls" or appearing "frozen in space" were two things I did *not* experience. 5. This is personal choice now, but I played the WHOLE game stealthily and I thought the boss battles actually provided a really nice change of pace. FINALLY I could actually fire off some of the guns I collected. It was almost a relief in a way.

Disappointed so far, but I'm going to stick with it. Graphics are terrible (Character models are terrible, faces etc and even the cutscenes freeze; and no it's not my computer 460GTX using the suggested settings and I even turned them down to see if it helped the cut scenes; it didn't). Shooting isn't all that fun and I'm bored of the story as I got lost at the beginning of it (never played the original) and nothing is making any sense, the main character's voice is annoying me too. Although I will give it this; I thought the sneaking around would be the worst part of the game but I am kind of enjoying it and think it's the best part of the game; I just pretend I'm James Bond.
Well now that the game developers came out rite on the flaws of the game, are they planning to put out some kind of patch or something to help fixe the flaws as best as possible? That is if they can? even though so far so Good, I just started playing it and I'm Liking it and I've already noticed the oddities of the AI as well as the repetitive comments from many of the different NPC's. But even though The game is pretty good, I'm not going to rate it just, as I have not even gotten through half of it yet.
Deus Ex HR on sale on Steam again! There will surely be a daily deal to discount it more before the 26th as well. Thanks a lot Kevin, this and your review of Dark Souls have me really itching to play both.
This game has been suggested to me by a few different people. From what I've seen & heard, this sounds like a pretty solid title.
Love this game so much....
on steam for $10
@alpr1010 Funny, I came here to post the same thing. Loving the game so far.
Steam Sale for this game @ $10. $16.96 with all DLC until Feb 27th
oh yea baby?? ?? guess whos getting this game tomor:)
POSSIBLE SPOILERS! I just got playing the game. It's absolutely wonderful. I really hope that they make a sequel. The only thing that I didn't like was the presentation of the ending. It had the Metal Gear style think back type ending with Adam talking while flashes of picture and videos go on in the background. I was really hoping for a CG video that ties what happened in Panchea to what happened in the world and to Adam/Megan in the aftermath. Oh well. *sadface*
@rasputin177, I'm pretty sure you would enjoy this. I'm a big fan of the "Mass Effect" series myself and most parts of "Deus Ex: HR" have a similar gameplay and feel to them...
I'm actually playing this game right now and I must say it's really good. This, FFXIII-2, and Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning will tie me over til I get ME 3 =P @rasputin177 if you love ME 2 than you'll definitely love this game.
I love RPGs but not a huge shooter fan. On the other hand Mass Effect 2 is one of the my favorite games ever made. Do you think I would enjoy this?
This is a MGS 4 wannabe game. Even the exec producer used MGS4 as his influence for this game. Lets get one thing clear: Deus Ex Human Revolution is never in the same league as any MGS game (let alone MGS4). The flaws in DS HR are soo numerous that they become laughable. No wonder, the game is on a sale of under 10 pounds here in the U.K. 'cause nobody bought it.
Eight point fiiiiiive
So is this like an RPG like Oblivion or Skyrim? Or an RPG like Rage?
best RPG EVER!!!!! Adam Jensen needs to be reborn
ahh deus ex i remember the original when it came out
you get a +1
@termnalvelocity Of course the peni$ augmentation.I mean what to get after that.
gordon freeman and adam jensen are the best
I LOVE YOU ADAM.
@williebazerka DOES THIS NEED THINKING? THE PENI$ AUGMENTATION OF COURSE! umad? umad bro?
I just started playing this.Anyone have tips on what augments to get?
@Sniperfzerox Yes.
Square Enix had disappointed me for far too long... will they redeem themselves with this game?
The game is ok I think 8.5 is to much.
Great game.
Great game and great details on PC. The architecture and settings are fantastic, but my favorite thing about this game is walking up to any city street working girl, saying out loud to myself, "where's my money?" then pressing the action button to make Jensen throw a right hook across her face and knock her out cold. Very satisfying.
There a steam sale until Thursday for Deus EX HR
NPCs usually do have cheesy or repetitive dialogues.
I thought the pc version looked fantastic. The environments look great and the characters are well detailed, the animations and voice acting often get in the way of the narrative. The main characters have good voice acting but most of the other npcs have cheesy dialogue.
The bosses were horrible. I never upgraded my dermal armor because i never needed it outside of the boss fights. The bosses use cheap one-hit kills and don't give you the flexibility to use your own tactics. I had to turn the difficulty down on one of the bosses because i kept getting killed in unfair ways.
This game is awesome. Best game I've played this year so far, GOTY contender IMO (though I think Skyrim will take that title :p) My only complaint are the characters and the awkward pixelated shadows don't help them much. Also the bosses, WTF happened there? But none of that compares to the epic-ness of the game.
an epic game! not kidding..
