Difficulty:
Just Right
Time Spent:
20 to 40 Hours
The Bottom Line:
"Almost, but not quite"
One of the first things that strikes you about Deus Ex: Human Revolution is the dancy main menu. Perfectly fine if you only have up/down on the controller to push, but with the mouse it's a little annoying. Welcome to DE:HR and its miserable console port interface.

You will find yourself zooming out on the map every single time. You will wish the shop interface could be zoomed out. You will find yourself zooming out the hacking mini-game. Every. Single. Time. And you will do a lot of hacking. While hacking, you may choose from a few different actions, which are grouped so as to respond to up/down/left/right on the controller. But the placing on the screen is slightly random. So for the mouse it doesn't work well. @#&$!!!.

What you will find on the computers are mostly emails containing inconsequential small-talk about questionable business practices, reminders from the ICT guys about computer safety ... and those containing passwords and passcodes so you can log in to other computers to find...yet more passwords.

This is what you will be busy with during most of the game. Somehow the story does not manage to pull you in and keep you glued to the screen. A lot of opportunities to make things more compelling seem to have been missed. The mystery of your own history never becomes as clear as you would like, nor do the actions of the various factions.

These issues don't make this a bad game, really, but it clearly isn't all it should have been.
