Bungie crafts a simpler, more enjoyable, story line.

Destiny 2 had the opposite problem of the first game. Where the original Destiny's story was too complex Destiny 2's campaign is actually quite fun. I been told however were the first game had near infinite replay value at its end game and this is where Destiny 2 fell a little short. I'm one of those weirdos who was only interested in playing Destiny 2 solo so the story mode was all I cared about. I'm pleasantly surprised to say it is possible to play Destiny 2 by yourself and still have fun. Of course, I'm sure it would just be that much better with a couple friends along.

Everything is fine and dandy until the Cabal, a buff and heavily armored species, launches a full out assault on the traveler. They do something to the traveler and all the guardians but you lose their power. All your allies have spread out to fight on different fronts. Its up to you to bring them all back together to stand against the Cabal's leader Dominus Ghaul. Ghaul believes he deserves the travelers power and if he can't earn it he is going to take it. To make matters worse you become aware that the entire solar system is endangered from The Almighty, a massive Cabal warship.

The story is fine but if we're honest you'll be spending most of your time just shooting aliens. The Cabal are the main threat but you'll still have to deal with cybernetic species (Vex), shadow monsters (Taken), and along with some other creatures. You'll find an array of different kinds of weapons split between three categories primary, secondary, and heavy. Primary and secondary weapons include stuff like hand cannons, scout rifles, machine guns, shotguns, and sniper rifles. While heavy weapons feature stuff like swords and rocket launchers. You should always find plenty of basic ammo for your primary weapons but some of the better guns use more uncommon ammo types.

The gun play feels great but it is only one aspect of the combat. Your melee strikes are quite powerful and each class has distinct bonuses. The grenades are great because the do massive damage and are just set on a cool-down. Of course the most devastating tool at any guardians disposal is their super. The supers include a devastating staff, a super though shield, projectile bombs, and many more. Although the cool downs are rather slow they can easily turn the tide of battle. The guardians are quite agile with each class featuring different techniques for jumping around.

Although I'm sure I would have enjoyed it more in co-op I still had a lot of fun with Destiny 2's story. The level design is varied and exciting to explore. The story is a quite a bit simpler and easier to understand. The combat is still the star of the show not that I wouldn't expect any differently from Bungie. Of course their is a ton of post story content if you are into raids, competitive multiplayer, or buy any of the downloadable content. I liked Destiny 2 enough I would probably keep playing but I'm too busy to get a group together for that extra stuff. However, I'm happy to say Destiny 2 is worth playing even if just for the campaign.
