Destiny 1.5 more like it

User Rating: 6 | Destiny 2 XONE

Destiny has always been a hit or miss with me. The first game, with all the DLC, still isn't that long of a game. They most repackaged old areas or the same missions into "new" missions with weak content such as new items, things of that nature. Even with the completed game, There was a lot more to be desired. Sadly, Destiny 2 does nothing to address the same issue that plagued Destiny.

Despite 16 main missions and 27 side missions, There isn't much to do in Destiny 2. While the story, yes there is an actual story, is massively improved and worth following, The missions are still that repetitive point a to point b objective that does nothing for me. There's no substance in them, Just the same thing over and over again. It's boring. And the same applies for the side-missions although thankfully, They are a lot shorter and give just as good, if not better rewards.

Another killer for me is the fact that I deal with connectivity issues often when playing. It's so frustrating getting halfway through a mission only to get kicked out due to losing connection to the gamer's server. I've tested my internet connection plenty of times, with various games, and this game is the only one giving me any problems. And considering the game is an online only game, It's a huge and annoying issue.

All that stuff aside, It's still very much of the same. There seems to be a lot less focus on the PVP aspect of the game and more focus on the story and the missions. Which is kind of disappointing considering the PVP was easily the best part of the first game. There are public events held often so people can get together for a quick fight and get some nice rewards. Visually, The game is stunning to look at and a massive step up from the first game. And I haven't had any real issues with bugs either so that is a plus.

Another aspect of the game I am disappointed with is buying items. I have genuinely not bought a single item in the store and have not had a single issue going through the campaign. And to me, That is a problem. I should wanna feel enticed to go out and buy some new loot and see what I can upgrade and I don't. I collect all this in-game currency and I don't spend it at all. I feel they need to do something about that. Maybe make customization a bit more obvious, Also make it a bit easier to get the higher quality loot because, at this rate, you only get the really good stuff if you spent dozens of hours grinding out the same activities over and over again. That kind of sucks and it's a major problem because a great open world makes you wanna earn and spend the currency as fast as you can get it.

Another issue that I have is that they build these massive planets and make almost no use out of them. A few scattered missions re-exploring the same area you have already been to but can't address the first time around. It's stupid. There needs to be better mission placement, Do it in areas you haven't really explored with the main missions so you can get a full look at the world. Also, Add more NPCs. People like interacting with characters and getting more of the story. IDK how they haven't considered making some NPC driven storylines to help add a real open world feel to it. That seems like a glaringly obvious thing to do.

Overall: 6/10
Destiny 2 suffers from the same issues the fact game has. If anything, It seems like just another expansion rather than a fully thought out sequel. They need to do more with this game and not just with DLC either. There's too much lacking in the base game and it sucks.
