So I finally gave in. My spidey sense always tingled with this game. But I finally gave in and gave it a spin.

Demon's Souls is like the Academy award favourite that everyone claims is something 'You just have to see. It's so amazing!!!!'

Except that it's not.

It's awful. Like I'm throwing up and have diarrhea at the same time awful. Really. Just so very, very bad.

And when you tell this to people (just like with the Academy darling), they respond 'Well you just don't get it.'. Gamers go a little further though stating 'Maybe you're not hardcore enough. Are you actually a gamer?'

I am a gamer. I'm hardcore enough. But you're right. I don't get it. And I don't want to. Because like HIV, 'getting it' is something I would like to avoid.

This is worse than a train wreck. Because it's so bad you can easily look away. There's not even a morbid curiosity. Just depressingly bad.

Except everyone loves this game. And it makes no sense.

I like hard games. This isn't hard. It's a mess. I might be confused (and please tell me if I am!), but I think people love this game because it's so ridiculously bad that it's their Everest. It's dangerous to climb, and not very many people actually do it. But to the people that reach the summit, oh boy the sense of accomplishment. And the stories. All the wonderful stories to tell. But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe this game is amazing and I'm just missing something. Hopefully that's the case, because if this is the definition of game of the year quality...well then I'm out. Not out of gaming. Just reading reviews and opinions. I can't take this Twilight Zone stuff anymore. I feel like everyone else must be right, because there's so many people that tell me I'm wrong.

But in this case I'm so very happy to be wrong. I'll wrap myself up in my wrongness blanket and cozy up with my lame Assassin's Creeds, Metal Gears, LoZs, Bioshocks, Dead Spaces and Okamis. Those will keep me warm and happy.
