Demon's Souls, a game that requires a good attention span as well as an ability to endure many slow parts.

When I first picked up Demon's Souls, I didn't like it. The reaction wasn't uncommon for someone who was basically brand new to the game and wasn't used to be crushed over and over again until they got the feel for it. As I went on, playing, figuring out how to advance through the levels, things started to click and I finally took down the first boss.

The learning curve here took me about 6 hours to adapt to, and about 2 characters to figure out what I really wanted in mine. First a Soldier, then a Royalty, and finally a Priest.

When things first started to click, I began to feel better about my successes in the game, and learning from my failures was much easier than when I first started. I began to enjoy it a little more.

However, as I look at reviews and see some of the better players play, it became evident that this game would be boring and time consuming. What exactly was the point? To run around collecting demon's souls, crafting the best weapons, and going through the game 3 times to get a platinum trophy? Or to play online against other people where some of the items are so powerful anyone can basically two shot you, and when they land their first hit you might as well quit?

This game corrals people into one or two groups, besides the quitters that get mad because of the difficulty. It will either suck you in and be one of the best experiences of your PS3, or it will just seem like a very boring and slow paced hack and slash.

I'm not saying the game doesn't take any skill, because this game is one of a rare breed. It demands focus, dedication, and learning. But for those of us that don't get hung up on the idea of "OH MAN I NEED THAT WEAPON! OH MAN I WANT THAT ARMOR! I WANT THAT SPELL!" it's just not worth it.

The atmosphere is very dark, and most people say it's supposed to have a horror element, but I have yet to see anything truly scary. What do they want me to do, scream in horror as a dragon is about to eat me...through a television screen? There's no soundtrack, and that makes every sound in the game very obscure.

All in all, this is the first game that I've ever played where a boss victory has been so anticlimactic. The first boss I killed I was glad I was getting somewhere, but every single boss after that I just think to myself, "Oh hey, I killed one, only 20 to go." It just turns into a grind, and the lack of any kind of real direction (where you can go to any world you please after 1-1) just makes it feel like you're getting nowhere, and you don't really have any place to really be.

This game also has some of the most retarded characters I've seen out of any video game. The blacksmiths are always angry. Stockpile Thomas has no balls and always tries to come on to me saying nice things about my heart, the Maiden in Black always wants me to finger her to touch her demon, a bald kid sits at the top of the tower next to a bunch of dead people and somehow he's optimistic about while everyone else has the worst day of their life. They're in the freaking Nexus safe from Demons...smile dammit!

If you can get into it, it's a good game. This game just can't give me good enough reason to play it.
