Demon's Souls is a Rough Diamond.

Welcome to Boletaria, a land covered in fog and full of mystical creatures oh and DRAGONS!!!!!. Demon's souls is one of those games you can't put down once you get started. Boletaria is a Magical land filled with unique and obscure creatures but what seperates this game from similiar titles is that you're trapped in dark medi-evil world that you don't want to leave until you solve all the lands mysteries. The best part about Demon Souls isn't the fact you're trapped in a land full of dragons, giant knights or fire breathing spiders, it's actually the fact that Demon's Souls pays tribute to all the great Action/Adventure RPG's that came before it. Boleteria has the abandoned feel of The Legend of Zelda, the medi-evil dark atmosphere of The Adventure of Link and the charm and visual prowess of Final Fantasy X with the dungeon crawl feel of Diablo. There has never been a game that has put so many different ideas and inspirations together before Demon's Souls.

When you first start off Demon's Souls you start off as a lost soul with no clear sense of direction until you stumple across one battle after another until you come across a giant powerful creature. After your death you are then sent back to the Nexus where you are in a ghost like unliving form. Where you learn you are the only person that can save Boleteria from a cursed fog that covers the land. The story is a bit all over the place and disposable like most of the characters you will interact with but the best part is rescuing people and choosing their fate.

This will be one of the most addictive games you will ever play but don't let the harsh beginning startle you. It only gets better from here. If you have ever played the Original Devil May Cry you will know what I mean. The more you progress through Demon Souls the easier and more natural the game will feel. The game trains you so you will be tested.

Visually Demon Souls is stunning. From Boleteria Castle to Stonefang mine this game will blow you away and make you feel like you're in an isolated world. The attention to detail on the bosses is mind boggling and the creatures look absolutely brilliant. The most impressive part of the graphics is the attention to detail you fill find on the dragons. It makes Brave Hart look like an 80's cereal commercial. The dragons also have a special aura about them as you see the light glow and reflect off their wings as one is ready to prey on a group of helpless soldiers, which gives them an air of invincibility. Which makes the game feel like if they were taken out for five seconds the whole game would fall apart.

The weakness in Demon's Souls is that it has a poor cast of foreign voice actors that sound like they took a wrong being directed into the right studio. It is a big letdown when you compare the ordinary effort these people put in compared to the magnitude of this game. There's nothing worse than a Japanese woman practicing Shakespeare when you know there's a Scottish man stuck in a cell.

With 10 different classes to choose from. Hundreds if not thousands of secrets to find in this game and over 5 worlds to explore in one game you know you have something special on your hands and many sleepness nights ahead. Demon's Souls can easily consume hundreds of hours into a single file. Demon's Souls is one of those cult classics that people will still be talking about and playing in 20 years and with good reason. Demon Souls is truly a masterpeice.

Every once in a while you will come across a game that surprises you and catch the gaming world off guard. Demon Souls is that game. If you can forgive the safe story, rushed voice acting and average characters you are looking at a rough diamond. One that will stand the test of time.
