Oddly compelling

Ok I saw the GS review and then I downloaded the demo. After playing around with that on and off for a week I decided to pick up the full version. I have been hooked ever since. While there isn't any depth as far as story goes this is a great instant gratification RTS/RPG. However there are some things that are a bit annoying.

First balance: There are some skill and gear combinations that make you a 1 person wrecking crew. Not to say that is a bad thing, but I have 2 shotted opposing demigods. While it is great to have a sense of accomplishment imagining the swearing that is going immediately following it, this makes end game kind of anti-climactic.

Second level selection: There are only 8 maps at present. I know this just came out but maybe soon they will offer more as a free download, or maybe release a editor and let the players make their own.

Third trash mobs spawn: A slight back track for those who don't have the demo or game: there are two classes of demigods- Assassins and Generals. Assassins are 1v1 heavy skill damage dealers while generals rely more on pets and some abilities to wear down their opponents. Generals can directly control their pets which can make them very nasty in large groups. On that note there are portals all over the maps that spawn in these trash mobs of grunt soldiers that follow a set path every time and attack any hostile on the way. This can be a bit annoying because they will indefinitely run headlong into enemy defenses and just get wiped. I understand the game mechanic is there mostly to keep people from hoarding these little suckers and rushing all at once, but direct control would make them slightly more effective.

Now that is over I will say this, I am addicted to this game. It is a great "I have 40 to kill, let's get a round in" kind of game. The matches often are touch and go early on and can be quite frantic. But as I stated earlier once you max out certain skills it is pretty much over. I found my copy at Wal-Mart for $29.99 so I picked it up. I refused to pay more than that due to it's lack of depth, but I am glad that I did becuase it has been a blast so far.
