An overall good console shooter, but it could have been better.

This game is hard to describe. It has its strong points and it has its weak points. The single player campaign is alright at best, but the multiplayer is plenty of fun.

First off, the single player. As you may have guessed, its another take on the events in Somalia some years ago. Before you play the single player, you can do a training course that goes by pretty quickly to learn the controls. After that, you start the campaign. All the missions take place in the desert or towns. You will be running on foot, making your way through minefields, shooting bandits from the back of a hummer, and blowing up weaponry with satchel charges. While it sounds exciting, it becomes repetitive after while. The poor graphics hurt the overall experience. Blowing up stuff just doesn't feel as exciting as it should. Minefields are so easy to get through it becomes tedious. And the gunning from the hummers gets just as boring. The enemies are all the same, and are not very smart at all. The last few levels are a pain, because they take place in the same town and are all based around the Black Hawk Down event. The weapons are pretty good though, and range from average M16s to RPGs. You get to choose what weapons you take with you, and you can purchase new ones with points earned by completing levels skillfully. But thats about the best thing i can say about the single player.

As for the multiplayer, this is what saves the came and what will keep you coming back. The matches are larger than most console shooters, letting you have up to 32 players on the battlefield at once. The modes are the standard for multiplayer, including deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, and king of the hill. The maps are much better designed than the single player, but still can get repetitive at times. You get to select a class and your weapons for combat. And when you die, dont expect to be down and out, a medic may come and save you. The overall multiplayer experience is much more exciting than the single player and worth your time to at least try.

SUMMARY: This game is just plain average. Its one of those games where the single player is dissapointing, but the multiplayer is the saving grace. Still, it may not be worth purchasing just for the multiplayer. Rent it first.
