Going by his words, the great bulk of downsides, while bulky indeed, is all bugs and glitches that can and most likely will all be ironed out in time. It's a typical downside of MMOs at start and this one is no stellar production with a mountain of money behind it. All the game elements are merely above average, he says, but it's greatest quality is how they come together to form a much more than above average experience. Why then didn't it get the medal "Better Than the Sum of its Parts"? It would seem it deserves it more than most games and it would be the most relevant medal it could have.

Rather than speak of the bugs for half of the review, which is a debatable downside, especially in an MMO, I would rather he speak of other denotations he makes in summary of the written review, like the "wonderless world" one. Yet he never mentions this aspect, nor some others.

Brill game. Been my go to game since it released. Still plenty of goal's to do. Great value for money. Some stuff bugged but not in the gameplay(will be fixed in time). Comparing to other games, playtime etc, great value for money, great fun, better experienced with good company tho.

I've really been enjoying this game for the last couple of weeks, and agree it is easy to be sucked in and lose hours whilst playing in some of the large arkfall events with 50+ other players all working together, even if there isn't much communication between them.

The video review kept showing shots of losing connection to the server - maybe it's a region thing, because playing from the UK on the EU servers I've been able to play every evening and connected without problem.  Only time it has been down for me is during scheduled maintenance which seems to take place around 0030-0130 - so middle of the night.

I've enjoyed playing the game, and enjoyed the first episode of the show which aired on Monday, and I'm intrigued to see how they plan to interlink the show and game as the stories progress.  First time something like this has been done, and while it may not have the gloss of AAA it has produced a fun game and a unique experience.

I own it, it's fun to play, but the review is spot on.

Hmm, replay Xcom with DLCs or play this... >_>

Guess I'll wait for WildStar

This game is so generic I forgot about it before the video even ended.

It's not particularly bad, I just couldn't find anything particularly fun about it either.

Maybe that's just because bugs really, really kill enjoyment for me.

@naryanrobinson

"I forgot about it before the video ended"?

So have you played the game or not?

I own the PS3 version of the game and its really good! I would encourage most people to take this review with a grain of salt and try the game out for themselves. I've had it from launch and I'm hooked!

@Double_Wide I'm playing on PC right now and honestly I'm hooked. Our score is fair because of all the brokenness, cheesy writing, and awful interface. I was having trouble getting onto servers last night, post patch. The weapon mechanics in this game are superb, when you dig into them, which is why I'm going to keep playing.

Ok, enlighten me on this:

On 0:21 Kevin says "Defiance is a lot of fun"...but yet gives it a score below this site's "Good" range (7.0).

Please tell me of what instance(s) in gaming where "Fun" isn't synonymous with "good"?

Not into MMORPG's at all, but this looks it could be pretty fun without all the bugs of course.

man, I wish a "Firefly"-MMO'ish game was made -- or rather a game within thre Firefly universe. This doesn't look bad, though. An MMO for the PS3 and Xbox. I wonder how good it is for the consoles?

I got it. It was overhyped to say the least. It's a fun distraction, but it does get repetitive pretty quick. I do hope that maybe a little further into their transmedia experiment the game will get more interesting.

I might get it even if it's a 6.5..I really enjoyed the TV show premiere. @Kevin-V , do you know how the TV show and the game are connected in a way? I heard what happens in the show, something will happen in the game at the same time. Thanks!

@Barrakas21 Maybe companies should get things right before releasing broken games that require updates?

@JustPlainLucas @Barrakas21 I wonder then what the score would had been if it was a cbs show and the game is not broken again do you ever heard of updates?

And stop kissing GS's arse. They won't employ you no matter how much you see yourself as a reviewer or what ever you try to be.

@Barrakas21 And by the way, GS has been giving CSI games 5s and 6s ever since they were being made.  If GS gives the next CSI game a 9 after being bought out by CBS, then you might be on to something.

@Barrakas21 Yeah, yeah, I heard of updates but so what?  If you sell a broken game, expect to get a broken score.  Patching games has been a lazy way of doing things.  So, for people who don't connect their systems, they're left with the broken games.  That's why GS reviews the way they do.  REALLY not hard to understand.

Before I even watch the video review, here we go.  "WTF GAMESPOT!"
