Defender Hands-On Impressions

By

We go heavy retro with THQ's mobile Defender at E3.

The version of Defender we previewed is in early alpha, and it shows with this title more than with the other THQ Midway classic arcade games set for this July. The scrolling crawled along, and the game was plagued by slowdown.

However, the graphics were arcade perfect, and the controls were really tight, especially for a game with as many buttons as Defender. The user interface is intact as well and is a remarkable achievement considering the amount of data in the original game.

The alpha Defender is a good start, although it obviously isn't ready for consumption. We're looking forward to the release version in a few months.
