Designer Ron Gilbert gives us a first look at DeathSpank in this demo from PAX 2009!
I think the game is pretty good
this games looks fun, not to many games focus on that anymore.
It's for all three, pc, ps3, xbox 360...
From my understanding, It has an initial load then no loading once the game is loaded & running...
The world looks amazing.
this game looks promising . will try it.
intresting, surely a lot of fun online multiplayer. the pop up book thing he mentioned reminds me of animal crossing =)
About the enemy characters not attacking..well since this was a demonstration maybe he just didn't want to spend to much time fighting everything, and risk dying, but wanted to show a little bit of the world and features instead. I think that the final version will of course be different and one will have to fight pretty much everything. Seems like it could be a fun game, the dialogue with the old pirate was hilarious.
@Sophia :( ... ok Thx for your reply. Hope it ends up in a system that I own :)
rofl this game made me crack up uberick the bed wetter! he wants a taco!!! lol!!!
@chang_1910 - Sorry, that's a mistake that hasn't been fixed yet. We have to put in a platform in our gamespace to add the game to the database, but as of PAX, Ron Gilbert didn't confirm which platforms it would be on. It runs on any platform though :)
This game remind me that old game of game rooms, what was the name? The game where a knight lost his armor when he had touched for an enemy.
@Sophia: but the clip start saying is for ps3/pc/360 ... in time 00:15 there is a text box that reads: DEATHSPANK pc, ps3, xbox 360.... :? so which one is it? we do not know and that was a mistake? Thx
Looks kinda boring...
they are making a full game out of this? this is good for a PSN and the like other than that...
d_kell I agree man. I think I'm annoying the heck out of my roommates by that ad playing every 2 minutes.
I am so sick of ballad of gay tony advertisements at the start of everyth friggin video.
I was curious about this game...I was at the booth but they weren't playing any footage of it. Looks great.
god please bring this game to ps3.... :) looks great, NICE RPG elements, great adventure.. (for what i can see) I find it weird thus how you can pass some enemies without being sense or attach at all, and you pass REALLY close e.g. 3:18 and 3:29 and so on. If you do not attack they won`t. I guess that there is a reason for it... or maybe they do not attack unless you touch the treasures :P @bobstos: ... I missed the loading screen, when did that happen. Saw the demo a few times.
fuuny how he says there are absolutely no loading screens, as the game proceeds to a loading screen...
funny dialogue
that art is amazing
owned by knowledge
@BadMonk - if you read the written article, you'll find that no platform has been announced and the date is just 2010.
I love the visuals and I very much missed a high budget game with some really nice 2D art and this one seems to deliver it rightfully so. As for the game itself, it shows a lot of promise, but we've only been shown a tiny lil' bit so far. Still, it's from Ron Gilbert, so it definitely won't be bad and at the very least we can expect something to be likely almost or even as funny as Monkey Island! ;)
It looks good. There are some bugs that must be fixed.
OMG Pirate armor!! Must buy!!!!
BadMonk at the beginning of the video there is a info box which shows its going to be for PC PS3 and XBoX 360...sooo anyways I really like the way that they made the graphics you know, he has a point about the charm of 2d art style graphics!! Also the models seem really cute :D and last but not least there is a loot system,as we all saw armor, weapons, ammunition etc...Looking forward to seeing more gameplay of it Im sure that there will be epic boss battles.BTW the view of the map moving while you were in the ship was also awesome!! PS: Don`t think it will be a free game!!!
come on GS reviewer! at the end of the interview @ least ask when is it coming out and for which platforms please? :)
'Dee-abbloe'? That dude can't pronounce Diablo to save his life. XD I like the graphics, but some parts are not fully made, one area you could see the separate tiles. Unless they include some major (more than just the lightning) this could feasibly on Wii, PS3, and X360. Sea battles? I like the ship, but I want some sea battles!
Very cool look to it, that's for sure. Is this going to be a downloadable game or full retail product?
Still have mixed feelings on the game, the visuals look nice and exploration seems much easier and alot of fun, but do enemies even try to initiate a fight with you? Have to keep an eye on this one though.
@famguy that is not the lack of imagination, that is the Ron Gilbert humor.. and Beleive me that guy is one of the most humerous persons in the entire gaming industry.. If u had played any of his games u would not have been making that comment... yeah the Enemies not attacking thing does seem a bit wierd but i think they wont attack u unless u mess with them or atleast thats what i figured from the video.. I am sure that this too wud be justified once we get the scoop of the game... I am so looking forward to this one!!!
@DooM_MerchanT if you click on MENU -> Playlist -> then select Number 2 and it should play fine. Enjoy.
I dunno about this. The visuals all look pretty cool. But I agree with the poster below about the armor in barrels and such. Even as he was talking during the video he said things like, "I don't know why pirates keep their armor in barrels, they just do." It's things like that that just seem to show a total lack of imagination in games these days. Also, it seemed like none of the enemy characters really attacked him at all until he had already almost killed them. He walked right by tons of skeletons that didn't even flinch when they saw him merrily strolling by.. Just kind of found that odd..
The still visuals seemed very promising, but seeing the game in action kills it all. Armor hidden in barrels, treasure chests, skeletons that drop money... nonsense! People should read the "Dogma 2001: A Challenge to Game Designers" now and again. This here is the exact total lack of imagination that makes me think there's no more hope in indie gaming than in big companies development teams. Shame, with the effort made on visuals and a little bit more gameplay creativity it could have been a reasonable hit.
I think that the indie game movement may have reinvigorated the adventure game genre. Here's hoping Gilbert can put together another classic.
"formerly sally the stable girl":lol::lol:
Looks really good. They have me hooked. I love unique games like this.
Non of the video's on the site are working, I keep having to download. Guess it's region specific adds blocking me becuase I live in the UK
This is going to rock
