DeathSpank does an excellent job at combining hack&slash with the quality humor of a goofy, yet enjoyable world.
Death spank is one of those games that can change your whole perspective over the gaming industry. It's not because of the perfect graphics or the highly elaborated story, but because it is a very fun game to play, which is a rare thing these days.
Graphics are good but not as impressive as other games of the hour. Still, each character has it's own traits and look that make it blend in the funny, yet short world of the game. The weapons and armors as well as the other items have a nice look to them and the animations are very well done considering the cartoon style of the game.
The story is rather simple but is very enjoyable due to the quality humor it is packed with. You play as the ultimate hero DeathSpank in a journey to get a precious artifact, that you are not really sure what is does.
During your journey you help out all sorts of people and fight and impressive (considering the size of the game) rooster of monsters and demons. Quests are rather simple and dull but some of them are rather well designed and original.
Combat is simple and fun, allowing 2 weapon combat, special moves and a variety of items. It does tend to get a little repetitive at times, but the visual design, quests and the humor will keep you going.
Sounds are very good, both in voice acting and music and bring this wonderful world alive.
To bad that there is a level 20 cap which you can reach before you finish the story. Also some quests are to dependent on fortune cookies(hints) or luck. Keep in mind that the re-playability is rather limited since a single run through will be enough to see all weapons and armors.
Overall, DeathSpank is an enjoyable game, with fun combat and quality humor that will provide a few hours of fun and relaxation. It will also teach you about irony in case you were not familiar with it.
