Easily the funniest and one of the most fun downloadable games of the year.

User Rating: 8 | DeathSpank PS3
For a downloadable game, Deathspank is an incredibly well made adventure. Not only does it not take itself seriously, but it's something anyone can pick up and have fun with. From the person who barely plays video games to the Diablo veteran who will recognize lots of similarities here, Deathspank appeals to a wide audience. There are some minor flaws, but overall this is a great game for anyone.

GAMEPLAY - Deathspank is an RPG, but it does a good job of disguising that fact. Newcomers to the genre will pick this game up and just see it as a fun adventure game, while veteran RPers will see this as a satiric look at a hero's adventure. What can be a good or bad thing depending on those playing, the co-op mode is very newbie-friendly. As Deathspank, the game follows you, and you are able to switch out gear and make decisions. However, the second player plays an individual who shares the same life bar and only really serves as a support character. This works well for my girlfriend and I, because she appreciates the humor, but doesn't necessarily care about all you need to do to keep your character up to par. Otherwise the game is basically a hack 'n slash adventure with some pretty run-of-the-mill quests. It's not the longest game, but it's fun while it lasts. - 8/10

STORY - The story and characters are very generic and typical of an RPG, but that's what this game aims for. The whole thing is a giant satire of a game, and veteran RPG fans will appreciate this more than others. The main goal in this game is to find an artifact known as The Artifact...yeah, pretty cliche. A big bad guy comes into the picture, but that's about the whole point of the game. - 8/10

GRAPHICS - The graphics are about average with other downloadable games, maybe even a bit above average even. It's very animated and fun, which adds to the atmosphere. - 8/10

SOUND - The music is more or less just kind of there. Not that it's bad, but it doesn't add much. What really shines here is the voice-acting and dialogue. It's very witty and fun, which I tend to really enjoy with a game. - 8.5/10

LENGTH/REPLAY VALUE - Unfortunately this game doesn't do well in this category. It's about average with other games these days at about 10-15 hours long, but there isn't much here to make you want to play it over again once you're done. It's pretty linear, and if you're a trophy hound, everything can be gotten very easily in a single playthrough. While it lasts, this game is a lot of fun, but it doesn't have the greatest replay value. - 6.5/10

BOTTOM LINE - Deathspank is a fun adventure game for RPers and casual gamers alike. It's not the longest nor the most lasting game ever, but for what it's worth, Deathspank is all you could really ask for in a game. If you enjoy witty humor, fun adventures, and satire, give this game a chance. It's definitely worth the asking price, especially compared to other games. - 8/10
