 @LeoLex_ Because developers small and large are still using that age old excuse that they don't know how to program for the ps3. Mojang did the same crap.

Looks like an expansion on Limbo's game play. Even has that same dreary feel to it.

I'm listening to the reviewer complain about the game, but at the same time I'm thinking "Damn, this looks and sounds amazing!"

But to be fair, I can see how the gameplay might get repetetive and dull.

DamageIncM

 @shanethewolf How the heck can you hear anything with the pumped sound in this video?

Anyway, apparently there's also a "soundtrack version", but I have only a vague idea of what the music to this game would be.

And even if it would be interesting music, if it would be good quality.

It could well be that you get MP3s and that they're mastered too loud (like this video).

Besides, it's still at the expensive side...

Lol at people complaining, its just one mans opinion, if you enjoyed the game then more power to you, just don't come here attacking the reviewer just because you don't agree with him, and yes you are allowed to voice opinion but not this way like some of the posts, don't let a review get in the way of you enjoying a game you consider good, learn to deal with other people's opinion.

 @lonewolf666126 I know! It seems like they kinda copied the gameplay, or at least were inspired by Limbo. It could be that they're using the same engine or something, cause animations and such look very similar.

 jwsoul dude i don't hate COD actually Cod 2 and Cod 4 for me are masterpieces  ,but you can't deny that activision recycles the same game since modern warfare 2, they release the same game every F$%&# year i was expecting some several changes in Mw3 but not ,they took Mw2 and changed the maps and that was it, that's why i criticize it so much, Activision has way too much money to create something really good with the foundation that previous cod games has stablish,take a look at Halo for example the game was pretty much the same but in Halo reach Bungie improve the game mechanics but keeping  the atributes that make Halo great the result was an excellent game,or look at battlefield the father of moder warfare fps multiplayer shooters that even if the campaign sucks it's developers took the time to add destructibility to the game and it was so good that it become a factor that change the way that a first person shooter must be played (in multiplayer mode it's awesome), in cod mw3 a jet goes right trough the map shooting bombs in a old town and not even a wall gets destroyed,Activision kills the root of COd since Mw2 where are the moments of intense battle in the campaign (remember the mission of D-day in  cod 2 or missions like Heat in COD4) where you thougnt you can't win (vietnam mission in black ops is way to easy for a mission staged in a real war) since MW2 the game become easy,repetitive and boring even in veteran difficulty the multiplayer mechanics has not change since COd4 they just add things to it, Activision plays safe giving us the same package over and over again, that's why i don't accept that a guy who obviously is a COd fan like Chris Watters who gives good scores to every cod game gave a bad score to an low budget (low if you campare it to a AAA game) xbox live arcade game using the words shallow,repettive and flat because if that is the case my man Cod carries all those adjetives for some years now.

6.5? Shallow experience Crish Watters a cod lover saying that this game is shallow,repetitive and flat? Hahaa gamespot really should fired all their reviewers, Oh! excuse me, they should fired all their fanboys that makes reviews and hired professionals with real experience as journalist and writters to do their jobs. A guy that gives a high score to every boring and repetitive sequel of Cod surely will give a bad score to anything that doesn't show what he likes without any good reason, 6.5 just because he doesn't like it. what happen Chris to much Cod seal up your head and taste,or maybe it is that you have no taste to play anything besides first person shooters? Just like Kevin Van Ord who is a rpg lover who kills ever shooter he reviews just because he can't beat them,this guy give a bad review to something that his cod-fanboy brain can't process, Hey and remember Chris this is a Xbox live arcade game it's not an AAA game like Cod which even with a big budget is the same crap every year. At least games like this attemp to give us players new and good experiences.Dont' believe this guy and try it for yourself, i can assure you that it will not dissapoint you.

Dude, he didn't say "samey", like same stuff we saw before; he said "repetitive", and feels like we're acting out a script. That sounds fair enough to me. He also said that it would take 3.5 hours or so to finish it; so when a game is a little repetitive and very script-heavy in a span of 3.5 hours only, that's not great. Maybe a score of 6.5 is a bit harsh for a fairly innovative game like Deadlight, but bringing high scores for CoD into this doesn't help your point at all; on the contrary, thousands of people are gonna find you picking on CoD and being unfair to it too. I'm a bigger fan of Battlefield 3, but to bash CoD, a heavily multiplayer game and call it "same crap every year" is just uncalled for. It's good enough when FPS games that are multiplayer and fun to "shoot" in have this much drama and storytelling; at least CoD drama is much better than Crysis's almost non-existing storytelling, and they're both great games in their own right. Again, I do find 6.5 a little harsh here, and perhaps a 7.5 would've been more fair; I also feel that Kevin can overrate a few games sometimes (like Skyrim), but all GameSpot reviewers do an awesome job with most games; these people try to push the gaming standard up, and try to force gaming developers to add depth to their games, add drama and good storytelling, and while I feel they may occasionally overrate (Skyrim and Blizzard's mind-numbing crap) or harshly underrate (like Deadlight and Rage, which is almost a classic today after the patches and nVidia sorting out the driver issues), most of the time they do a great job. I respect this reviewing team, and see them as mostly fair; and at the end of the day, we're all humans, thus imperfect and occasionally emotional and subjective.

 @yasso  I agree with what you wrote, just because a game is annual installment hit doesn't mean that the game is crap because saying that would be pissing off every soccer, nfl, nba and nhl series fan especially if they are crazy enough to find you and skull-f*** you. also i agree that skyrim is overrated so was fallout 3 and i think rage was a promise half- kept.

yasso
yasso

 @corteztheg Agreed on Fallout 3, mate; now that you mention it actually, strangely enough I think that most of Bethesda's games are overrated...good, yes, but also slightly overrated.

As for Rage, the only things that spoil it for me today are the focus on car racing (I could do without that in an FPS with excellent mechanics) and size...it should've been bigger. Well, should've either been bigger, or had storytelling as good as Mass Effect 2...id Software's choice really. Other than that, I think the game, its world, graphics, mechanics, etc. are amazing and very promising. I'd give it an 8.5 today.

 @yasso

Please, do explain how you think Skyrim was overrated.

Skyrim was given 9 here, and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was given 7.5. If you can  logically and objectively explain to me what makes Skyrim THAT much better than KoA:R, then you simultaneously get your answer. @beansoup28

I think a review is always based on the personal impression of a game aswell even if you are a game reviewer. Secondly i think we always should read or watch video reviews in that way that there is room for own judgement, and if the gameplay or story appeals one should realy considering buying the game instead on purely going on what reviews say, they are are an oppinion and thats it. I played the trail version of Deadlight today and even it can be linair at points i still enjoyed the overall setting and textures, the lighting is very well done, and based on the gameplay, well its a sidescrolling game, that where largely popular awhile back in the early days of consoles. Playing Deadlight gives you back that sence of feeling you had playing those awhile back. Its still a highly enjoyable game tho, if its worth the 1200MS points? Well it is big (2 gig on your HDD) its hard to tell realy if your a huge fan of zombies and post-apocalypse settings and not mind playing a sidescrolling game then its def worth your MS point and time. If your however not a hge fan of either then best leave your points where they are, and wait for something else worth spending your points.

Gamespot reviews and scores below it in my opinion are so low rated lately.

Are GS members not getting enough money or they upset somehow by the developers ? YES - we need another generation of consoles and YES we need game dev to be more creative but this is not the reason to give at least 1,5/2 points score below average, below it's deserves.

DDHOAMK
DDHOAMK

 @effendi360

Let me tell you why that's bullshit.

"Are GS members not getting enough money..."

Are you implying that Gamespot is being bribed for high reviews? And if so then why are you fighting for them to give this mediocre game a high review?

Your other two points are irrelevant to the review since Walters never actually brought them up in the review.

ak99372
ak99372

Don't need to imply... it is the fact (people that didn't agree with paid reviews were fired from GS) so get your facts straight before you start yapping on other people's comments.

yasso
yasso

I personally don't feel that any GS reviews seem that fishy. Yes, I agree that occasionally they may overrate, like in Skyrim's case, and underrate, like in Reckoning's case; same thing with over Blizzard's crap, and under something like Rage. But this is never done in a very glaring way, so it makes you just feel that the reviewers personal feelings influenced the objectivity a bit, but not really in the sense that the reviewer was instructed to do something due to a bribe. Even in Mass Effect 3, I was really, really disappointed with the game, and now will always consider ME2 to be the dearest to my heart and one of the best games I've ever played in my life; but even with the horrible disappointment, I would not be able to fairly give ME3 anything below 8.5, because they still made ME3 a bit longer and bigger than ME2, and also added a different experience with a multiplayer portion, so yeah, no matter how disappointed I am with the ending, with the shallowness and half-cooking of the romance options, with the horrible treatment of the long-awaited Ashley and making her the least trusting character towards Shepard, even if she were his lover (!), and so on, I still wouldn't be able to give ME3 anything below 8.5, as compared to ME2's 9. So in the end, if GS gave ME3, I can't really say they overrated in a glaring way, but yes, BioWare and EA really deserved to be punished for what they did to ME3 with a score of 8.5 only for the finale that broke so many fan hearts.  @BadHungryWolf

BadHungryWolf
BadHungryWolf like.author.displayName 1 Like

 @ak99372 Certainly think there's something fishy!  I mean when Mass Effect 3 was review it got 9 out of 10...yet nothing was said about the ending?!  Did EA pay GS to ensure a good review so that no one was put off buying the game?  Once EA have your money...who cares!

Endings used to be a factor with reviews...Halo 2's ending was mentioned in it's review back in 2004 and being one hell of a frustrating cliffhanger where you'll have to wait 3 years for the next game!

Rather than worry about how "accurate" the score is, I prefer to look at the content of the review.  As a quick snapshot of the writer's experience with the game, a score really can't be "inaccurate".

The review itself is the meat, especially the video review of a video game because footage can show examples of what is either being criticized or praised.  With that in mind, I find Chris's review to be a good one - it gives all the relevant information needed to make a purchase decision.  Type of gameplay and execution, storyline summary, any standout technical glitches, length, how well the individual elements combine, and a personal reaction to the package as a whole.

I got enough info from this to make an informed purchase decision.  This is what I want from a review.  Angry nerds yelling at the screen while wearing silly costumes may (depending on your taste) make for entertaining reviews, but they're not nearly as useful for the purpose of making an informed purchase as this was.

Thanks for the review.  It does look like something I'd enjoy, and I do have spare points in my Xbox Live account.

I'll still get it mainly because I did like Limbo. I just thought it was too short and really didn't care for the way the game began and ended. It was like a found footage type game where there are no credit or introductions at the beginning or end. The only thing I'll probably dislike about Deadlight is the repetitive nature of the game. The game looks great for an XBArcade game and for the price it seems decent. I'll probably download it tonight along with Wreckateers.

 @Easyaz

 I agree with u on that mate, but if its gonna be an RPG, the mechanics and physics for the character has to be somewhat like AC or PoP. For this type of games, they have to be able to jump and be agile, maybe like "I Am Alive", so u can be sure to escape your zombie attackers climbing to a window or a house if your stamina doesn't run low. What do u guys think?

 @Easyaz You need to check out the Day Z mod for PC....no words can describe just how good it is! Bit of a pain as it's a mod but all the instructions are on the official site. It's also very unforgiving, with the average life expectancy in the game being only about 45 mins. http://dayzmod.com/

sknight175216
sknight175216

 @Easyaz Yeah I know what you mean. Your best bet is to get Fallout 3 and there's a mod that adds a zombie apocalypse. Then there's a silent hill fog mod. Put those two together with rh-iron sights and now you have yourself a zombie rpg. I'm sure you would have a lot of fun with that. I use a mod that basically makes ammo pretty scarce unless you buy it from a vendor and I modded the damage guns do, so whenever I shoot something it feels like I'm actually firing a gun. It makes the game feel really balanced because while guns are deadly you don't have ammo just laying around so you have to conserve. Anyway, fallout 3 by itself is a fantastic game and you can mod it to pretty much be a zombie rpg with just the right feel of survival
