I heard a lot of hype about this game before I first got it. The beginning it sort of confusing cause they don't exactly explain what's happening like I think they should have. You come into the game just flying to the abandoned ship. As soon as you get aboard you completely abandoned and are left alone. From that point forward you are on your own. In my opinion that is one of the most confusing parts in the game. You are given an objective with no help whatsoever.
The "people" on the ship, which are less like people and more like aliens, are very, very creepy. When I saw the first one it genuinely scared the crap out of me. And of coarse, to add the creepiness of the foes you are fighting, most of the game is more dark than light. The creatures are extremely hard to kill if you don't know how to hit them. They basically don't die unless you slice off their limbs first. And on of the difficult parts of that is that when you shoot off their legs they crawl at you on the ground. If you stomp on them when they're on the ground they can still bit and slash at you. When you shoot off their arms first they run even faster at you and try to bite and eat you. There are many different types of the creatures. There is the Infector, the slasher, which is the most common, the Lurker, the Pregnant, the Twitcher, the Leaper, the Brute, the Wheezer, the Divider, the Swarmer, the Exploder, the Hunter, the Gaurdian, and the Stalker. These are all Necromorph aliens.
Now onto the weapons. There are a total of 8 weapons in the game. There is the first weapon you find which is called a Plasma Cutter. It is basically a pistol that shoots 3 bullets at a time. Designed to cut off limbs. It can be change from a vertical position to a horizontal position for players best needs. The next is the Pulse Rifle. It is the "machine gun" of the game. The next is the Flamethrower. And I don't think that anyone doesn't know what that is. The next weapon is the Ripper. It is the chainsaw of the game. You shoot out a saw blade about 10 feet in front of you and it stays there as long as you hold the trigger. This is a very effective weapon. Next comes the Line Gun. It Is a bit like the Plasma Cutter. It stays in a horizontal line and acts sort of like a shot gun. You can easily take of two of the alien's legs with 1 shot with this weapon. The final 2 weapons in the game are the Force Gun and the Contact Beam. The Force gun is the real shot gun of the game. It is extremely powerful but only if you are firing close range. The Contact Beam is like an enlargened lazer beam. It kills most enemies in 1 blast. All weapons have a secondary fireing use.
This was an allover good game but a bit confusing. I would definitely say you should rent the game first, try it and if you like then do whatever. If you like games that really can scare you this is a good game for you.

Most things work well for Dead Space, however I wish they set up the story a little better.
