An excellent addition to the survival horror/shooter genre which just about matches the quality of Resi 5 and Bioshock.

On first impressions the game appears to be just like any other shooter set in space. It begins with a fairly generic cutscene and the characters aren't anything out of the ordinary. Once you break through the first few minutes the game shows that it's got something special beneath the surface from the atmosphere of the game, to the excellent visuals. Ammo seemed a bit scarce early on and you never really encounter more than one enemy at a time but that's just a nice way to ease you into the game. Shooting each limb is a bit difficult to get used to but that's a technique to improve on as the game progresses.

The weapons are excellent and are so satisfying to use, especially as the enemies limbs come off so satisfyingly. The graphics are not as good as other games but the setting lends itself very well to what the game does offer visually. The way the game is laid out is exactly how I like a game. A central hub on each level is the perfect basis for a game as it means there's always a safe point to go back to.

It's a bit disappointing to know that you've got all the weapons in the game after only chapter 4. At least the game gives you an incentive to use them all with there being an achievement for 30 kills with each. I only encountered one glitch which was when I was riding in an elevator standing against the wall, and the game just killed me for no apparent reason.

Thankfully I got all of the weapon specific achievements out of the way by about chapter 8 as having to use some of the tougher weapons was a chore to say the least. The contact beam and flamethrower were by far the hardest and the latter took me ages to get as lack of ammo and the amount it takes to kill one enemy meant I was struggling to get it. I really hate the zero gravity and no oxygen sections more than I thought I would. There are a few that really tested my patience until I finally worked out what to do. Just because of those few sections I'd definitely put the game behind Resi 5 and Bioshock which didn't really have any.

The final few levels were really good as I wasn't confined to a particular weapon and was able to tackle the game how I liked. I wasn't so keen on having to bring along the 'marker' in the final mission as it seemed to just be slowing the game down. The end boss battle was a bit underwhelming as it was pretty easy compared to the couple before. The boss battles weren't as bad as they can be in some games as they didn't take anything extra special to bring down. It was basically just a bigger version of the game's basic enemies. I didn't bother spending hours trying to complete the mini games as they only give generic rewards and are only worth a few achievement points.

Using just the plasma cutter really wasn't as boring as I expected for a second play through of the game to get the 'One Gun' achievement. Once it's upgraded to its max it doesn't really matter where you aim as much as it did to begin with. The only problem I have with the ability to dismember their legs is that if you manage to remove all their legs first it makes things really easy. It'd be nice to be able to carry over your equipment and money onto a harder difficulty which Resident Evil fixed between the 4th and 5th game so hopefully that'll come in the sequel.

The game's story is also excellent and fits the setting of the game really well. It manages to tell the whole story without any real cutscenes, just the odd stationary conversation to break up all the video and audio links. The game's difficulty is just about right as well. It's not too hard and ammo isn't too scarce like it is in Resi 5 so the game is often more enjoyable.
