I hope games just drop this style of gameplay... There were a few of these in the demo... Makes me feel dumb to have to repeatedly press a single button to escape death =|

I think I'm one of the few people who will admit to liking QTEs. It allows there to be action in cutscenes while still giving the player some measure of control.

Yeah, as long as there aren't too many of them.

Hey at least Dead Space's QTE aren't at RE6's level.

Would anyone complain or give a negative review if a game did NOT have QTEs? I don't think so. No one has ever complained about a game not having them but they will definitely complain if they DO have them so why do developers keep thinking its a brilliant idea that MUST be included.

I thought there were QTEs in DS1 and DS2? At least in the moments when you get grabbed by a necromorph. Either way, I'm sure they won't be as plentiful as God of War or RE6, hopefully.

This. I actually don't mind QTE's but it was taken to ludicrous levels in RE6.

There was only one QTE in the demo. Also, the other two games had them as well. What's your point really?

I think his point is that he's lazy and doesn't want to have to push a button during a cutscene.

Either that or he's secretly complaining that QTE's caused his death while he got up to go to the bathroom because he thought cutscene=bathroom break time.

I never understood all the hate for QTEs I find them enjoyable.

The QTE in this game were not near as bad as in RE 6. I thought they felt more like Uncharted style QTE. I didn't mind at all.

I wouldn't really consider these Quick Time Events, due to how the buttons are never randomized throughout the Dead Space series.

Whatever you need to do, you always mash the same button.

QTE gets it's infamy from randomization of the prompts.
You thought you got it at first but on your next try, a different button pops up on-screen and you only have a split second to react.

I'm the f***ing authority on QTE hate, so I would know.

as long as QTE's are done well.. i dont mind them at all.. a really good example of QTE's done terribly would be in RE6

As my sig says, there are no such things as QTE "done well" or "done right".

The second you include QTE, it's "all wrong".

QTE can never, ever replace actual, physical gameplay.
QTE is a crutch for lazy, untalented developers who don't know how to make things more manual, leaving everything to on-screen prompts and scripted animations.

Im not lazy or anything like that but i think its rather stupid to press 'x' 20 times to survive a particular scenario...
  • Jan 29, 2013 3:47 am GMT
The thing that doesnt sit right with me is the fact that if you somehow nauls up a qte then your'e just tasked with replaying it until you do get it right and theyre very rarely difficult anyway. Personally qte's dont bother me but i do sometimes think, what's the point?

Crutch for lazy developers who can't be bothered to code everything or think up of a manual gameplay that will be fun.
