Dead or Alive was developed and published by Tecmo, it was released in 1998
Dead or Alive is the first of the Dead or Alive series. Alot of the features in this game is what made the Dead or Alive series popular. The combat style in the game is pretty realistic, atleast for the time, the character design looks very good, and then finally there is one more thing that makes hardcore video gamers dream naughty thoughts, thats right the half naked women, and the oh so sweet boobie bouncing...OHHH BABY!
Now Dead or Alive is not just released on the Playstation, it was actually released on the Arcade in 1996. So the Playstation version is a port of the Arcade version. Dead or Alive was also released on the Sega Saturn and XBOX. The Sega Saturn version was never released in America or Europe, which must of really pissed alot of hardcore gamers off.
The characters in Dead or Alive consist of: Bayman, Gen Fu, Jann Lee, Lei Fang, Kasumi, Ryu Hayabusa (which is the same character from the Ninja Gaiden games), Tina Armstrong, Zack, Raidou, Bass Armstrong, and Ayane.
The graphics for Dead or Alive are pretty good. the characters look good, the stage design looks good, and I really enjoy the graphics. Oh wait, I forgot one more thing. The bouncing boobies look good too.
The music and sound effects are pretty good as well. I really enjoy the music in the game, it fits very well.
The controls are pretty good. They are very responsive and thats what I like in a fighting game. The thing is, I am a button masher when it comes to fighting games.
There are many modes in this game, The modes in Dead or Alive are: Tournament Mode, Time Attack, Versus (which is 2-Player mode), Training, Survivial, Kurnite, and Team Battle.
They are all pretty cool little modes. I really like the Team Battle mode, you get to pick 5 fighters, and you fight against 5 fighters, if you defeat the computer oppenents fighters, you win, if they defeat your 5 fighters, then you are defeated.
Another thing I find very cool about this game. When you defeat a oppenent in a fight, it shows a reply of the last punch, or kick that defeats a enemie. I think that is pretty cool, and all fighting games should have that, in my opinion.
All and all, Dead Or Alive is a kickass game, and I really enjoy playing it. I even enjoy the sequels after this game. Although I never really played the Beach Volleyball games, but I do enjoy the fighting games.
If you have never played this game, you should check it out. You could probably find a copy of the game in a used game store. It's worth checking out.

Me (Ein) vs Nightbird (Hayate). Mental toughness is critical in fighting games. Don't lose your head even if you have an abysmal round or two. You CAN regain momentum. Part 1 of 2.Posted Jul 20, 2006
