Alright well people have gave me so many mixed opinions; mostly negatively on this game. Some have described it as a hybrid of many other games. Games I felt in playing this was a little bit of FO3, Far Cry 2, Borderlands(Well just because it's an on-line RPG that is taken in the first person).
The great thing about this game is the weapon mods and creating your own gear. I really loved the slicing weapons. There are a few games that do a good job of making FPS combat decent(Condemned, FO/Skyrim/<random game>, but this one does a fantastic job with it's melee combat.
The shooting doesn't feel bad, but the actual core combat when you're slicing through zombies are something to really create note of. I ran into one glitch, and played with people with mics.
I really did not care about the story but appreciated the setting. I'm not a zombie fan(Although I have played Walking Dead and love it, I never got into a zombie phase). I have to say this is the best zombie game I've played.
It deserves to be up there with games like Mass Effect, Fall Out, and Borderlands for western RPG. The zombie setting works perfectly, the 4 player co-op is great if you find people with mics, the core melee combat in this game shines more than any other fps IMO, and I like that you level up with the zombies. It lets you play with anyone, and once you reach the cap you will have a skill tree advantage.
A+ game. =)

I agree with your opinions, but I have to say that the shooting (while competent) is not that great.
My biggest gripe with the shooting is that shooting zombies in the head should result in an instant kill...at least 2-shots. But head-shots do not matter with zombies.
I also feel that this game is very under-appreciated & underrated, because some people complain so loudly about the problems this game has...
Yes, the game had some bugs at launch, but so do most games.
Or people bash it cause in their opinion it is "just another zombie game".
A few even criticized it because they were expecting a FPS with emphasis on shooting, but when they had to wait to get a gun with limited ammo and have to rely mostly on melee weapons then they automatically criticized the game.
I've heard it being described as a "poor Borderlands knock-off" as well, as well as many others.
I get it, this game isn't for everyone, but for what it offers it is very good, and it definitely does a lot more right than it does wrong.
Can't wait for the next game, Dead Island: Riptide.
BTW
I've wanted to laugh when some guy tried to claim that Dead Rising was more realistic & more fun than Dead Island.
I know, it is just his opinion...but Dead Rising more "realistic"...C-mon.

Don't forget to add a spoiler tag in your title.
Yeah I just finished finally and the story was okay only because not much was explained until later. Even then there are still question marks. And Jin dying was kind of just misplaced (all 4 survivors are standing there with guns!)
If they are bringing a sequel please make a singleplayer derivative. fighting Ryder is dumb trying to it solo (what the heck is arming those canister do anyway? I never found out cuz I was dying too much.

This game was hands down the best co-op zombie game this gen, mainly because 90% of the time I played it was with 3 of my best friends.
It was buggy for others, but none of us got a gamebreaking glitch. And I've been through the game at least 8 times between 360 and PS3, nothing major happened.
And oh the great times I've had drinking and killing zombies with my friends.

My first console was a colecovision, so yeah!

This is the best zombie game I've ever played and one of the best games in general I've played. The only real problems it had were from a smallish budget and engine limitations or issues. If they build on what they have in Dead Island 2 it will be great. Hopefully they can improve some of the stuff in Riptide as well.
