A good start to a good series.

So, I'm guessing a lot of people know what DDR is by know. After all, this game was released in 2002! But in case you don't, here's the review of DDR Max: The first PS2 DDR game!
DDR uses a special formula. Outlines of arrows are at the top of the screen. Arrows will come from the bottom, rising up, eventually passing through the outlines. You need to step on the special Dance Pad's arrow buttons as soon as these arrows line up to get the best score. In order, the scores are Boo, Good, Almost, Great, Perfect, and Marvelous(not all scores apply to this specific game).
There are about 70+ songs in this game, with some popular ones like Ordinary World. Mostly, however, you're going to come across some crazywhack Japanese songs that will make your friends look at you in a wierd way if you play them. I know from experience :). But that doesn't mean they aren't fun. There are really fun ones in there. There are also two boss songs, CANDY and MAX 300.
Speaking of 300, I forgot to mention BPM. BPM, in a way, is like a metronome, and the arrow outlines pulse depending on it. So, For the song Max 300, the song goes 300 BPM, which is fast. Some songs don't have a set BPM, and will change randomly, so you need to know the songs well.
There are a couple of modes to the game. There's Game Mode, where you can just play by yourself or with a friend for competition. There's a Tutorial Mode, where you can learn the various modes of the game, and a workout mode, where you can burn calories while playing your favorite tracks. The game tracks your burnt calories for you, which is a neat feature if you're tryin' to lose weight...which I'm not.
Overall, this is a good start to a continuing series. If you like dancing and having a ton of fun, put aside the fact that this game is 8 years old and go buy it.
