Character customization isn't quite on par with Champions Online or City of Heroes, but otherwise a vastly superior game

While I would like more options in the character creator, everything else about this game makes it one of the best I've played to date. The combat is fantastic. Instead of standing there auto-attacking, clicking on a hotbar, you build up two kinds of abilities. The first type is powers. These are your basic hotbar, garden variety abilities, although most games don't give you moves this cool. The other type of abilities is the real beauty of the combat system. Skills don't use up any power and are executed with mouse-button combo attacks. Instead of an auto-attack, you actively fight enemies from a third-person shooter perspective, using left mouse for melee and right mouse for ranged. There are many different types of weapons, too. As for power customization, there are six archetypes: fire, ice, gadgets, nature, sorcery, and mental, each of which has two skill trees and "Iconic Powers" such as Superman's heat vision. For instance, with nature you could choose from the plant control and animal shapeshifting power pools. The choice between trees is not locked, however, and you can choose powers freely from either throughout your progression. You also choose from three movement styles: super-speed, flight, and acrobatics. Your choice of movement also effects your combat abilities, so that in choosing from three layers of depth: weapon, powers, and movement, you create a very unique combat style, especially with the branching power trees within those choices. The only thing worth considering as far as gameplay goes is the slow level-up rate. That aside, though, this game scores a perfect ten in my book.
