I bought it for $6. Yet I feel like I wasted my money.
Probably the worst game from Square-Enix.
I have never written a review, but this game was so bad that I had to vent my frustration.
Secret of Mana is still one of my favorite games, so I had been looking forward to the prequel.... this was more than a let down, I think I actually cried.
The game is not all bad. It is visually pleasing and the cut scenes are enjoyable. The music is also appropriate.
But thats where the fun stops and the agony begins. The game play is awful, the levels are unimaginative, repetitive and endless, the enemies are rehashed over and over, the bosses all have the same strategy, all of your hard earned experience is deleted at the end of each chapter, you cant pause during the 15 minute cut scenes, no soft reset, cliched story, you have the same boring moves for the entire game. The Panic System doesnt make any sense. Why does lightly throwing a small vase at a knight cause him to go into a state of panic for 30 seconds while I repeatedly stab him with a sword yet all he does is shake in place? There is one enemy in the game that was quite clever, the CAMERA monster. Most of your time will be spent battling this beast, and he'll sneak up on you when you least expect it.
The game is never truly difficult, but always frustrating. Do not play this game, unless you're a masochist.
