The Kingdom of the Dead, Jump

I'm having a very hard time trying to jump to the hook & from there to the vines ahead on a pillar (pic: above). I die more than 40 times (not exaggerating) trying to jump off of the hook to the vines ahead but death either jumps away towards the right side from the pillar w/ vines or clings to the hook for a reason only he knows. Anyone knows any  trick or how do you pull this jump off?
