Kevin VanOrd braves life and death to bring you a video review of Dark Souls.
Hello guys, I'm thinking to get this game but which is better, Xbox edition or PS3? Are there any difference?
If your doing the story only I think with a decent player 50-60 hrs. Now if you look up videos on how to beat everything then it may be shorter. If you want to get every item and achievement it'll probably take you 3-4 times as long. This game has a lot of stuff in it compared to Demon Souls. Also each item has a unique way to acquire it. Hope that helps. Praise the Sun!
someone please give me a rough average of how many hours to finish the main storyline and how many for miscellaneous stuff. I don't know anything about Dark Souls so I'm wondering about getting it. Thanks in advance :)

Most of the game is main storyline, only a few completey optional areas like painted world and abyss, but you'll want to complete these areas too, I wouldn't suggest skipping anything. The amount of time depends upon route/knowledge, for instance someone who's been through the game could finish a ng+ in 25hrs give or take. But, a new character and new player would take about 70 - 80hrs all-in, excluding summoning/invading time to aid or hunt others - which is highly recommended!!.
If you're an RPG fan, this is a must own, one of the best RPG's ever made.
If you're new to the series (Demon's Souls), just be smart and patient, do not make decisions with haste. In these games, being cautious is usually the right move and if you're ever having trouble with a certain area, just summon help - you can summon up to 2 other players to aid you.
mjtplayer Thank you :)
i have this game since lauch and it took me 4 months to finally put it down... it is so great, improving on but also slightly easier than demon's souls.. i frequently started new characters just to feel powerless again at the beginning... cos my mage (ng+++++) can beat anything in a blink..
i wondered though at 3:44, is that a stone guardian/knight? cos at that place in the game there r no enemies and i also never saw a stone guardian jump before..
RaveNRolla yeah, you can make them to follow you from the inner forest. I lured them out many times just to die closer to the bonfire :)
So freakin hard, im almost 10 hours in and feel like i havent reached anywhere.
this is the one game that i would say wholly captures the feeling of being alone in a dark (very dark) fantasy world. even with the few npc's, it makes you feel alone, with a quest you dont entirely understand, but you must press on,
I am getting this game, this upcoming weekend. No doubt about it.
I don't know but I think Skyrim looks much better, anyway I think finally I will buy it :)
ALEXIAMOS Dark Souls is running on the Havok engine so it definitely doesn't look as great as Skyrim. However the gameplay is really engrossing.
I've played hundreds of games over the past 20 years. This is one of the very best. Just an amazing and uncompromising achievement.
Thathanka Once you get into the swing of things, is it one of those games that is difficult to finish?
I don't think I've ever been as excited about a game as I am for the PC version of this. I don't want any consoles and I've been lusting after this game all year. Games aren't hard enough these days and there's only so many years you can play Devil May Cry 4.
this review is precicely what this game is about...
Why not making Souls' pack for PC? Demon souls and Dark souls at one release?Hope that From Software will have enough funding to port Demon souls to xbox and PC
iamreadingboobs I like the idea, but Sony presumably paid royalties to make Demon's Souls a PS3 exclusive so I doubt From Software would be able to make it happen.
Still, fingers crossed...
Probably one of the best games i have every played
Can't wait for the PC version.
i love this game because rarely have i played a game that makes u pay attention to details small and large and also to take your time untill you get the hand of it as much as this game has.
best action RPG I EVER PLAYED!
This game is insanely frikking awesome!
Loving this game-really challenging and it forces you to employ some sort of tactic even for simple foes rather than the button mashing other rpgs offer. Great visuals, excellent controls;can not fault this game in any way or manner.
hhmm seems worth the thumbs up as fighting role stuff
witch one is the sword at the beginning of the video?!!!!!
Best Game Of All Time... from an OG NES era gamer... This game makes people quit without seeing the end... only those who have finished it appreciate it... which it is why its the best... I hope they make part 3 even harder
do you guys have any Idea when this game will come out on Demand?
@ excalibeast This one. There's no story connection to worry about with the original Demon Souls, so just get this because its superior. If you redoubtably want to play BOTH, get Demon Souls first, because it will be hard to go backwards and not feel a little gipped.
this or Demon's Souls?
Man I love this game. Very difficult, sometimes frustrating, but ultimately rewarding. The storyline and quests were rather nebulous but the combat, exploration, and leveling up were superb. I think I played through +++ mode before I was finally able to put it down.
The only reason I'm waiting to get this is because I know it will suck me in for days at a time.
this game is totally awesome and engaging but what kinda lets me down is the storyline, there isnt an interesting story line!!... thus i play more skyrim... dark souls is an excelent level up + fighting game though..but this isn`t exaclty an rpg game...
I also bought it for 14 euros here in portugal :), in a place called "Game"
@@DefstonedPT where did you buy that for 14 euros??i only see for 63 euros

I've had this game since launch and somehow (aside from Silent Hill: Downpour, which i picked up yesterday) its still the only game I play. It pretty much trumped Skyrim to the point that whenever I try to play it, I get bored in 5 min and go back to Dark Souls. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Game of 2011.
I really do hope that the announcement they are going to say later this month is about the PC version :)
when is the pc version coming out???
30$??really? bought it 20 min. ago for 14?! Funny point of this is that in my country(Portugal) games are super expensive (starting at 60?) ! nice buy even if im going to brake a controller =P
i have finished Demo's soul. LOVED IT! but i am not ready to play this one yet. playing DS was like a part time job for me XDDDD "you have a heart of gold, don't let them take it from you"
Wow, the soundtrack is so engrossing.

@1MetalMusicMan1 This game was ebery bit as difficult as they said it was. Remember the Orstein and Smough boss fight. But yeah you're right, incredibly awesome game.
This game isn't as difficult as people say it is, you just have to know what you are doing, and know when to hit and when not to. I didn't think any game could beat out Chrono Trigger as my favorite, but this one did.
I just bought Demon's Soul's and I am loving it... the day I finish it is the day I buy Dark Souls
mtait01 there is no finishing it as the game restarts automatically with tougher enemies each time u r through which only makes it more addictive. u can only have "enough of dark souls" for a while, but even that doesn't happen anytime in the first 3-4 months after u started it... ;)
If your still debating if you should buy this game or not. Stop, just go and buy it. You will not be disappointed. I rate it 10/10
i want this but i just hate dying and losing all my progress
Demon's Souls is probably the best game I ever played (including all the Zeldas, FF-VII, etc). Can't wait to get Dark Souls when I have the time... once more into the breach, dear friends.
