Why does everyone like it so much?

I have no idea. There's nothing special about the Balder Side Sword.

Now, if this were the Balder Swag Sword we were talking about...

It's a pretty good sword. It has good range and scales nicely with dex. I used it but got bored quickly and went back to my club character.

    Just kidding, nobody cares.

Other than being so damn rare (got only ONCE! for the love of God...) it has a neat S scaling

for Dex and a rather graceful moveset

    S rating with dex
Fast making it great for weapon enchants
    Good range
Claymore moveset, though of course much faster.

Oh, and if anyone wants one, I have a few extra, SL 122. I guess I could give them away for free, but if you have something to offer I would greatly appreciate it. There isn't much I want, but if you have any dragon scales, demon titanite, titanite chunks, a ghost blade(not jagged), Lightning Bolts, or slabs that is all I would want...

    Low stamina use
R1 is difficult to get around for backstab
R2 is fast and hits hard

    My favorite weapon personally.

It's as long as an Estoc with the moveset of a Longsword (not Claymore) and it scales with DEX as opposed to STR or STR/DEX.

At +15 and 40 DEX it only does 18 less damage than a Dark Sword or Sunlight Straight Sword would with 40 STR and 40 DEX.

It is the fastest swinging Longsword and the lightest.

It has no unique moveset, which is a huge plus since Longsword class movesets are amazing.

It looks beautiful. No "battle damage" like most weapons. It is shiny and polished brass and steel.

Very good weapon. The thrusting R2 attack has something like a 1.8 to 2.0 modifier to it.

Thanks for the info guys. Been trying to figure out a weapon to main, and this just dropped for me at the start of NG+++. Might end up using it, who knows.

Rare? I seem to get the sword drop no prob. Do you actually farm the undead knights to get it? or just kill em once? lol

safest longsword in the game due to a really fast moveset. Has the best stats damage-wise while also requiring some of the least stats as a trade-off. as someone said earlier, it's A scaling with Dex makes this a beast a weapon much faster and with less requirements than any other sword in the game.

I fell out of love wth this sword for a while, but have recently rediscovered its greatness since doing more serious PVP.

It does more poise damage than people expect it to from its appearance. Since it's very fast, and uses relatively little stamina, you can just wail on people until their guard breaks and then continue to slash them.

That's a risky strategy which leaves you wide open to parrying from a good player, but I find it effective against 2H washing pole users who attempt a similar strategy to inflict bleed.

In fact, assuming similar poise levels for each player, vs. a katana I think BSS will always win because it will inflict stunlock first using this method. People often don't expect such an aggressive approach from what looks like a light thrusting weapon, and this often takes them by surprise. Try it and you'll see.

Otherwise, the moveset (2H WD R2 is great), scaling, speed and decent AR advantages already cited make this a fantastic dex weapon. It's also available early on (always dropped quickly for me) and is quite effective in PVE as well.

I use it with Great Scythe as a backup, which provides a great, more defensive alternative against certain weapons.

Is it really rare? Early in the game I was doing Titanite shard farming on the 6 knights in and around the church in Undead Parish. I must have gotten at least 6 Balder Side Swords during those farming runs.

I think I have this sword. I built up a Zweihander and my Gargoyle Tail Axe to +5 last night. Stopped at raw. Trying to figure out how to add elemental damage. I got all kinds of rare Titanites but it won't let me use them. I got some Demon Titanite, Fire Resin, Lightning Resin, and Poison Resin. Blacksmith won't hook me up.

Exactly, I know I got a ton of these swords now. Knights in the church drop them. I got their armor sets too. They aren't rare on my game.

    Physical AR is 200 + 181
    A scaling
