Sorry, I know I was coming across showing off, but I am proud of him. He is a good kid and so I let him enjoy his video games. It piques his interest in computer science as it did for me as a kid.

I seriously don't even understand how Dark Souls is M-rated. The only "nudity" in it is Quelaag's chest, and most of it is covered by her hair. The only blood in it comes from a parry or backstab. You all need to chill out.
Right, but having someone send you a message saying *%# #$^$#^ !!! after they invade and kill your drake sword wielding newbie butt might be considered mature. - Feb 5, 2013 1:15 pm GMTacangial posted...

You should be proud. Sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders.

This. Bad parenting at its finest.
How silly, every child should be exposed to something mature. Besides aside from Queelag's chest and Priscilla's tail, this game is no more M-rated than Half Life 2
Wait, are you implying Half-Life 2 isn't a mature game?
Half Life 2 is one of those M-rated games that really shouldn't be M-rated

I did a point down after beating a gank squad (admittedly cheaply, but I mean they're ganks), and the host sent me a message saying if he ever found me irl he would bash my head in, and bury me in a casket full of s***.

Why is my kid so problematic and curse so much?
*Kid is playing GTA*
A parent shouldn't use a crutch like video games, movies, or music, for how their child acts.
You must be quite ignorant if you honestly believe whatever media or people kids are exposed to doesn't have a HUGE effect on the type of kids they are.

My son is a straight A student, quarterback of his football team, and best defensive player in his basketball league. He also just started in track & field. He voluntarily reads 1/2 to 2 hours a day. I can't possibly ask more of him. So, if he wants to play Dark Souls, a story that is no more "evil" than snow white and 7 dwarves, he can.
If you think that is bad parenting then I am not sure what else to tell you.

You must be equally ignorant thinking a kid's behavior isn't alterable by how well of a pair of parents or a parent they have. Yes media can alter a child's behavior and outlook, bu it ultimately lies in the parents to mold that outlook into something good.

Exactly, which is why a kid shouldn't be playing games rated M.
And we all know tc is trolling anyway, but letting a child play a game rated M is a no-no.

@TC, cool stuff man, almost makes me want to have a kid of my own. And don't worry about politicians telling people how violence in videogames f***s up kids, when I was 10, I was ripping out spines with Sub-Zero and hearts with Kano, and aside from a few mutilations I gave some guys way bigger than me when I was a kid, I turned out fine.

You need people like me so you can point your f***ing fingers, and say: that's the bad guy.

If you let a child play something M rated with violence or sexual content, and use no explanation or any way of putting what he or she is seeing in context they will be pretty altered by it. That's why one should explain the right and wrong of what they, the child, is doing, and then explain it is just a game, or a movie, or a song, and they should differentiate between the consequences of games, movies, or music, and real life.
I've played some seriously horrifying games, like SH2, when I was young, and my older brother and/or father took time to explain several things to me, either directly or indirectly, that I understood them quite clearly. I love SH2 for its story, atmosphere, and characters, as I did, albeit more basically, then. However, I understood it wasn't real and all that nonsense. And now, I'm 20 years old and I feel more or less normal.

When I was a child I was playing M rated games such as War Gods, Mace, Mortal Kombat, Duke Nukem 3D and all of those games that got bashed by the media as "murderer makers." I've grown up to be quite the pacifist, save for those times when others deal the first blow.
Good parenting can and most certainly will offset media influence.
