Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition Question

While running, briefly release the run button and tap it again, that will trigger a jump.

The default sprint button is space so press and hold space button to get a running start then very quickly double (heck triple) tap space. I've been having quite a few issue in getting the jump prompt to work properly (mostly cause I'm still unfamiliar with the button orientation) but rapid pressing space after a running start pulls out a jump for me.
