As over the shoulder 3rd person shooters go this is one of the most fun ones I've ever played. The protagonist in this game is a blast to play as. Bad aspects first: 1. The story is crappy(ex special agent trying to save the world from bio weapon baddies), it just doesn't track well and its boring. 2. The visuals are somewhat subpar. 3. The control scheme is a little over-complicated at times. That's about it. Now to address these issues. The story doesn't matter too much because the action alone carries this game. Sure a good story makes a good game great, but this game is fun anyway. The visuals are a little behind the times, but there are moments of beauty such as the water effects. And lets face it this is a low budget bargain bin game so cut it some slack. Lastly the controls are a little complicated, but they are responsive and as you get some game time under your belt they become more manageable. The cover mechanics in this game work well and your character has plenty of armaments at his disposal. There is a full array of firearms to choose from and they are upgradeable which is nice. The real fun comes in the form of your glave. A giant ninja star looking piece of weaponry that grows out of you character as a result of being exposed to some sort of bioweapon. Whatever, all I know is this thing is fun to use. Not only is it deadly, but it is used wonderfully throughout the game for various puzzle aspects. Your glave can be used to throw switchs, it can be immersed in elemental materials, and you can use it in bullet time to decimate enemies(think heads and limbs sliced off in slow-mo). The game difficulty is appropriately challenging and most of the boss encounters are cool and require a little bit of strategizing. The music isn't really memorable, but its there. This game maintains a good sense of pacing. I didn't notice any serious flaws other than some pop in. Bottom line: Dark Sector has a high fun factor for cheap. It isn't perfect, but you probably won't notice cause you'll be too busy kicking butt.
