Dark Cloud 2 is an example of how a game can have so many differences from similar games, but have them come together perfectly. The goal is to rebuild the past to save the future, accomplished by acquiring raw materials to build up old cities, which grow to large cities/structures in the future. Instead of characters gaining experience, their weapons do, and the system works wonderfully, with the weapons powering up just the right amount to defeat the next round of foes. Another very odd twist is taking pictures of nearly everything you can see, which then can be used as "ideas" to create various items and transportation upgrades. There are fishing contests, fish races, and also a "spheda" mini-game, which is basically golf. It can be very challenging and gives you some bonus items, but if you hate golf it is not necessary to play. It sounds like a mess, but everything really fits together into a near-perfect package. The games lasts long, and is incredibly fun the whole time. Should be on every PS2er's must-play list!!
