Developer and Publisher Hudsonsoft will forever be remembered as the company that brought us the Bomberman series. To be honest i was one of those millions of players who got addicted to the Bomberman series during the good old days. But in 2001, Hudsonsoft release one of their most creative games yet, DNA. The game featured some of the finest cell shaded graphics during that time and since some games does not feature this kind of graphics back then it is considered one of the most unique titles that ever appeared on the Playstation 2.

As i have mentioned, DNA was release on 2001, in Japan. Yeah this is one of those Japanese exclusive games for the Playstation 2. I dont know what exactly happend to the U.S version of this game. I heard some year's ago Infogrames was meant to be the publisher of this game. I also heard some rumor that some company named Virgin Interactive will release the game. Anyway, DNA (short for Dark Native Apostle) begins where your character is in a sewer then suddenly out of no where confined in a secret genetic laboratory. Immedietly as you wake up, the task has been given to you. Escape and shut down the secret laboratory, eliminate all enemies that block your way and to discover what exactly is your role on this grand scheme of great things. Well the gameplay really defines the true meaning of game. Apparently, there is something not quite right with your right arm. In other words, it's a complete cybernetic. As you play through the game, you will find some "bio chips", which will give you some new abilities like climbing, jumping and dashing. There are also some chips that allows your right arm to launch different kinds of ammunitions that will allow you to fight the enemies that you will encounter which includes armed soldiers, guard dogs, and of course mutated monsters. Besides all of these fightings, the game also offers hard and complex puzzles that will give challenge to the players. So you may also expect to use your brain alot when playing this game. At times, there will be some crate pushing like seen in Tomb Raider and there is also some stealth type of inflitration seen in Metal Gear Solid. So i must say DNA is really one big clone of those game.

The cell shaded graphics is the real beauty of the game. It is not like the one in Jet Grind Radion but this has more anime style element. It really shows the distinctive quality of the Playstation 2. The level areas are also huge (there are a total of seven areas for you to explore) and ranges from the dirty sewers to a mysterious ruins that contains the answer to the mystery of your true identity. The characters are also well created and it really feels that the game is like one anime show. The sound of the game is bit lacking but still it has that dark tone athmosphere that gives player that gaming sensation. The cell shaded graphics may not be appropriate for everyone but still the game is a very unique and interesting action/adventure game. I highly recomend this game to everyone but i highly doubt this game is still available around, unless you live in Japan or you can find it on some online shop.
