Good, but needs work

User Rating: 7 | Cube Life: Island Survival WIIU

I got Cube Life: Island Survival the first day it came out. I've played more hours than I'd like to admit. There are both survival and creative modes. It's a decent Minecraft clone, but it's definitely harder, and contains quite a few bugs in its current state.

After the bugs are fixed, this game will definitely receive a higher score.

Some notable bugs:

  • Enemies can shoot through walls
  • Digging below sea level will flood those areas upon loading the game
  • If you die in the water, when you load the game, you will still be drowning on dry land
  • Defeated enemies/ destroyed blocks don't always drop items
  • Crafting the hay bale will freeze your console

Not bugs, but annoying:

  • Pickaxes have very limited use, even when crafting them out of better materials
  • Crafting a raft is very time consuming, and it's too easily destroyed
  • Metals and other mineable materials are only placed in very specific locations (no random veins)
  • Using the furnace requires coal (no charcoal/wood allowed) and cooking food requires two of the same item

I'm sure there are more bugs, and other annoyances, but even with all the problems, it's still a fun game. Minecraft didn't reach it's current status overnight, and I'm sure it had bugs in the beginning too.

I'll keep my eyes on this game, and return once the first patch comes out. Hopefully the devs will create a forum, or at least a place to report bugs so all the dirty laundry doesn't have to be aired publicly.
