Crystal Quest is a remake of an old coin-op shooter in which you must collect a bunch of crystals on screen whilst avoiding enemy fire and deadly mines, then escape to the next screen, where you’ll repeat the process. On paper, it doesn’t sound like such a bad idea for a Live Arcade game. However, with it’s ‘move with one stick shoot with another’ gameplay, Crystal Quest bears more than a passing resemblance to other Arcade titles like Geometry Wars and Smash TV, and it lacks the intensity and flashiness of the former or the campiness and nostalgia of the latter. At a modest 400 points on the Marketplace, Crystal Quest isn’t a bad option – but it’s recommended you explore the other, superior games of this type before this one.
