Crystal Quest Can Be Summed Up In A Few Words, Fun And Fast.
THE GOOD : Various Enemies, Gets Tougher As You Progress, Cute Graphics.
THE BAD : Sound Is A Bit Dull, Achievements Are A Mixed Blessing Some Too Easy Some To Hard, Levels Are Dull.
Crystal Quest Was Originally released in 1987 for the Macintosh, Crystal Quest has a simple and fun design. Fly your circle thingy around a square map and collect all the crystals to open a gate at the bottom of the map. Once the gate is open, go through to the next level aka Wave. In trying to do so, you'll have to battle against weird opponents who spawn out of the walls from little spinny strange things , in addition to trying not to hit mines.
Gameplay : The gameplay in Crystal Quest is fun and addictive.
You play as a little circle thing which has to fly around and collect as many crystals as it can.
You move with the left dual stick and shoot with the right.
These button combinations are exactly the same as some of the other games like Smash TV and Robotron.
The Controls are responsive and are good to use.
You only have two weapons throughout the game though, a machine gun and a smart bomb.
The more you progress through the game, the tougher the enemies.
They range from the basic purple ball things to big pink globs to mine laying ufos.
While the enemies are all different, they still have the one goal of destroying your circle.
The Achievements Are A Bit Annoying to get because some are too easy and some are just too confusing to get.
The Get A Million Points One For Example Is Annoying because you get a million points yet no Achievement.
Graphics : The Graphics are cute, they are easy to look at, The colours in the game are good and don't draw your attention on them to much.
The Levels are dull and uninteresting, they are the same each time other than the different place ments of mines,crystals and smart bombs.
Sound : The sound is alright.
The bleeps and bloops of the ship and bad guys are nicely done.
The music on the other hand gets a bit annoying after a while so it is best just to play custom music.
All in all Crystal Quest Is a mixed blessing, It offers good gameplay but bad level design.
It is a good game in the long run and should be brought from the Marketplace if you enjoy Robotron and Smash TV.
If you can look past the bad level design's and strangely annoying Achievements then you will find a fun and fast little game.
