Not shocked by the shallowness of the game...but...

A little late to the party, but just finished the game and I won't let my thoughts simply dwindle away. I might jump from point to point, though there won't be too many points given the fact that it's not specific issues that make Crysis 3 mediocre, but the general stuff.

Firstly, I can't believe it how short this game was. Took me a little over 5 hours. For a full budget game (making it and buying it), that's a little lame. Granted it's a blessing in disguise because by all standards, the game is utterly devoid of any depth, and just a couple of hours into the game, I was simply playing on to see the ending (not worth it, but not a total bucket either). So, I'd say it's a good thing the game doesn't drag it out artificially, although they tried in a way, by adding those collectibles (a point I'll have to come back to...); but that effort was contrived anyways.

The graphics are good, but truthfully it didn't blow my mind away. The low res textures here and there persist. Text on panels and signs are still utterly low res once you get up close. Seeing that I replayed Crysis 2 with MaLDoHD 4.0, it's easy to be disappointed by the little things in Crysis 3... I played Crysis 1 just a few months ago, and I have to admit while the graphics are inferior in many noticeable ways, there's still something there that I find more appealing than what the succeeding engines present.

Another thing is that Crysis 3 is linear by all means. Sure you can choose more ways to get from A to B, but you're still going from this point to that point without any choice in the matter. In contrast Crysis 1 still makes you feel like you're not led from here to there - but C2 and C3 both make it plain as a pimple that you have to follow the yellow brick road...

So the point that made me roll my eyes so hard my left eye ball almost got stuck, are the audio logs. Boy oh boy I detest when games include these only so that you are forced to stay in the sub-menu to listen to them. So the nanosuit can cloak, bring you back from near death within 5 seconds, make you not break one single bone when falling from 25 meters, but it can't playback an audio log while you're walking? I hated it that, and for that reason I ignored all logs. Of course, the fault lies with the developers. Shame on them over this. It's little stuff like this that demonstrate just how linear they are in their thinking. By contrast, remember Dead Space? The audio logs could be played while continuing your "quest". Small point, but a point that speaks volumes to me. Sorry.

The good things is that it is generally OK game to play. Nothing fundamentally wrong, but it is shallow like an inflatable doll. I was glad I played it, and I was happy when it ended.

Thanks for reading.
