Good fun and nice that we see this game in this console, but a few new features would have made this a classic.

User Rating: 6.5 | Crazy Taxi PS2
When Crazy Taxi first hit the arcades, people were amazed by the excitement and addictiveness of the game. Hardcore, no holds barred taxi driving that you simply could not get away with if doing it in real life. People around the world were asking for more, they got it when the game was released in the Sega Dreamcast in 2000, more modes, more excitement, more gameplay, but yet still fans did not think it was enough to be considered a classic. When Sega announced that Crazy Taxi would appear on the PS2, people grew with anticipation looking yet more of everything. SEGA, ACCLAIM, HEAR OUR CRIES, WE WANT MORE, WE WANT MORE. Sadly no one was listening.

Same game, same story, you start by choosing one of four characters to drive a yellow car, a taxi in lame terms, and drive around town picking up customers and driving them to their destination, you do this, over and over again, sounds easy huh, one catch, you're against the clock, when time runs out, that's it game over go home there's nothing more to see children. What a pity then.

You would think that they would change at least a little something from the game, tough up the graphics, new drivers, new cars, new challenges, but no, it's not similar, almost or nearly the same, it's the EXACT same.

Graphically colourful and bright yes, but there's nothing new, same as the Dreamcast version, sure a perfect arcade conversion, maybe so, but at least there could have changed a little bit of something, this is the Playstation 2, we want new elements, and this game has none.

Voiceovers are a turn off in this game, very repetitive and annoying as well, to go through the game and pick up 6 guys with the same voice, it doesn't seem right, shouldn't every character have his/her own voice instead of copying each other's voice. Imagine Cher, Yoko Ono, Sharon Osbourne, The Olsen Twins, Hilary Duff and Jamie Lynn Spears, all with Hilary Clinton's voice, don't even go there. Just don't go there.

Punk rock is the theme here, top bands The Offspring and Bad Religion give us some tunes to go crazy to, yes I'll agree here, this music is better suited for this type of game, but the downside is you kinda get sick of hearing those same old tunes every once in a while. Maybe new tracks along with these tunes would have been the best move here, but oh yeah that's right I forgot nothing's new in this game.

It's very very hard to say that this is a game that will last through the ages because it is so limited, 4 drivers and 2 courses aren't gonna make a lengthy profit, alright, it's still just as fun as before, maybe more fun, but is it as addictive as what it was before, I don't think so.

Shame really, because this is a good game to play, very enjoyable, but in the modern world you can't rely on the same stuff and hope to get the same results each time. Sadly Crazy Taxi is a victim of that mistake.
