Crash Team Racing was first seen back in 1999. Today many other racers have come out to try and clone this game (especially Crash Nitro Kart which is pure crap). This is still better than most racers today. One reason is simply because this game has superb controls which are not simplistic and most importantly this game is really fun.
The karts control very well and are very responsive. To take corners you can do power slides. To pull of one you press and hold the R1 button and to get a boost press the L1 button three times. This is gives the game some depth as well as hopping off ramps too. Not straight away though when the bar in the bottom right of the screen is almost full you press L1. This may sound complicated but its really easy to use. There are lots of weapons to use to slow down opponents. So if your miles behind in last place or something you can get extra powerful weapons. There's one which makes you go faster and nobody can shoot you, but this only lasts for a while. There are many other weapons too. There are not all attacking weapons like rocket launchers and bombs, you can drop behind TNT and Nitro crates (when you collect ten wompa fruit) so people could run into them. The best place to put these items are behind the weapons crates. The difficulty can be made easy for young people and harder for older people so what ever age you are you’ll get a challenge. The graphics are high in detail. There are no squares to be seen when playing. The tracks look great and the characters are well animated. The sound effects do the job well and the soundtrack is great and suits the game perfectly.
The game has many features. There is a adventure mode where you go through all the tracks collecting relics, CTR's (where you have to collect a C,T and a R around the track). And by winning all the normal racers in that area you come up against a boss. The bosses through the main game are usually harder than normal racers so there always challenging but will never stress you out. The adventure mode will last a very long time. But that’s not all, there is also battle mode which is a lot of fun as well as split screen multiplayer and lots more. The game lasts many, many hours and the amount of characters, tracks and other hidden features will last a life time.
This is one of the most enjoyable and greatest games around and is still better than most racers to this day. If your sick of all the crap that comes out these days then look no further than Crash Team Racing, even if you have a Playstation 2.
