Not nearly as good as Crash Team Racing.

User Rating: 7 | Crash Nitro Kart PS2
Crash Nitro Kart is the sequel to Crash Team Racing. Back in 1999 when Crash Team Racing came out you could say that it was Mario Kart 64's only legitimate competition. While you definitley couldn't say that about Crash Nitro Kart and Mario Kart: Double Dash this is still a decent kart racer.

Gameplay, 7. Like any other kart racer you just race around the track using items to get in the lead. The Adventure mode takes you to all the game's different tracks. The first time you go to a track in Adventure you have to win 1st place to get the trophy. After you get the trophy for a track there are two new things to do there: get the CNK Tokens, and get the Relic. Getting the CNK Tokens works just like how it did in Crash Team Racing when you had to get the CTR Tokens. You have to get 1st place while getting the three tokens hidden throughout the track. To get the Relic you have to get a good enough time and to get that time you have to hit the boxes that stop the clock. After you get the three trophies in a planet you play the boss of that world.
In Time Trail you have to race through the track as fast as you can.
There is also an Arcade mode for you to play with 2 different modes in it: Cup and Single Race. There are 4 cups to play, each with 3 tracks. You can also set the difficulty from easy to hard for Cup.
In Vs. mode you can play with 2-4 people on any tracks you've earned.
In Battle Mode you drive around courses and use items to blast your opponents.
The game plays decently. There aren't really any problems with the game. The big problem with it is that this game is a sequel, yet they took things out of the game. On Crash Team Racing there were 18 tracks, on Crash Nitro Kart there are 13 only. On Crash Team Racing there were 7 battle courses to play on, on Crash Nitro Kart there are only 5 battle courses. And if that weren't enough, there is barley any variety among them. There are just jungle, arctic, earth, and futurisic tracks and courses. They only thing they have more of in this game is characters, and that's just by one only.

Graphics, 8. The graphics in this game are definitley pretty good. All of the tracks look colorful and neat looking. The characters look nice too.

Sound, 7. The sound is all right. The problem with the music is that more of it sounds familiar to those in the same environment. The voice acting is well done though.

Value, 9. Despite the fact that they took much content out of the game there is still plenty of value here. It will still take you a while to complete Adventure mode 100%. There are the Time Trail ghosts you have to beat. You can also beat all the cups on all the difficulties. If that isn't enough for you, you can play Vs. and Battle mode with your friends.

Difficulty, Just Right. The game isn't too hard or too easy. It's not hard to pick up like any kart racer.

Tilt, 6. As a Crash Team Racing fan I was pretty disappointed in this game. When you make a sequel there should be more content, not less. If you're a Crash Bandicoot fan and are trying to fill up your collection of Crash games then you should like this game. But if you're looking for a good kart racer for the Playstation 2, then just get Crash Team Racing because this game doesn't improve anything except for the graphics.
